Only at 3200-3400rpm
Sounds like midgets with buzzsaws in my intake.

It's a 3.3mb file but it's the only way I can describe the noise without typing rreeeooowwwrrrr.

Have you done anything that would involve your balance shafts, like change the timing belt or anything? It sounds like some kind of harmonizing vibration, possibly from this.

I guess that means you were able to hear it unlike the guy above...sorry "2.4 turbo Hyped" I don't know what happened there...

Indeed I have done a balance shaft removal, and therefor a timing belt change. Can you elaborate as to what the problem might be and perhaps why its only at that select rpm? Thanks and I look forward to your reply!

GAH! ok so data transfer limit was reached...if anyone would like to try and help I'll gladly send you the file in an email. Just email or PM me your address and I'll send it off. Thanks and sorry for the crappy host.

I couldn't access the file, but according to your description:

Open the hood
Remove Cat
Close hood :thumb:

Let us know when you get the file back up!

This is a long shot, but I had a similar noise at those rpms.
You know those rubber grommets that isolate solenoid brackets on the upper firewall.
If those are rotten or missing, those will vibrate and you can get a buzz saw sound....
I checked nearly everything that I thought that could make a buzzing sound, and couldn't find a damn thing.
Then I was zip tying some vac lines and found that one of the brackets on the firewall was missing an entire grommet and allowing the bracket to vibrate and buzz thru certain rpms.
I replaced it with a new part, and no more buzzing....
Just a thought...

I have not done a balance shaft removal, therefore cannot give first hand experience. I have heard, however, that removing the balance shafts will cause a slight vibration (I guess that's why they are there in the first place), and if this is so, I would imagine it could cause some noise.

If this is the case, I don't know what you could do to eliminate the problem other than turn up the stereo!

I have a feeling this could potentially be the problem, but yeah it does sound like a long shot. I'm not entirely certain what rubber grommets you're talking about though; could you specify a little more? Is it on the upper right of the firewall, like the solenoid connecting the hose from the intake manifold and the hose from the fpr?

Thanks again for the help guys.

Hehe, honestly, I read that and took you seriously for about 3 seconds until I realized you meant Kitty, not Catalytic.

Karbon was kind enough to offer me hosting. Once I get his email address I'll ship it off and change the URL, unless anyone knows a way to send attachments through the "Click here to send Karbon a message via email" link, because I didn't see one.
