Rear Calipers

Well there's the caliper and the bracket... I don't know how you can get the bracket off the caliper but you can swing it off to the side by taking off the bolt on the one side. Then you could do a nice cleaning job, empty out all the brake fluid inside and clean in there with something that'll get rid of grime and rust maybe... I don't know how you would rebuild it though... I mean all it is is a big piece of metal with a piston in the middle that pushes when force is applied. So just cleaning it is really the only rebuilding you would need to do. I don't think you can get the piston out or anything, but you can twist it in...

The rear brakes have some sort of racheting mechanism for the emergency brake function. You can rebuild any brake caliper, most autoparts stores will sell you a rebuild kit that includes a new piston boot and seal. If you don't have a manual, get a haynes at least. not the best, but good enough to point you in the right direction. :thumb:

I ahve the haynes manual but it does not include any info on rear caliper rebuild. All I want to know is how the piston comes out of the caliper.
