quick note before the story, boost gets to 20 psi with mbc turned all the way down/out

okay so i got a b16g turbo, intake, 1g head, intake manifold, and throttle body. With the stock UICP and BOV it was leaking really bad and i would hit 14 psi with no MBC. SO i finally got my hard pipe and 1g BOV hooked up and i saw the boost go past 20 without the MBC hooked up. So i hook up the MBC and i was hitting 19, i didnt want to hold the throttle down anymore. The car was pulling so much better etc with the hard pipe but how do i get my boost down?

the MBC really does nothing and it is hooked up. I have some boost leaks in the BISS screw, TPS, and a couple small other ones. WOudl this cause the major problems?

I have the stock fuel so i cant jsut run 19 psi. 2.5 downpipe, 2.5 high flow cat, to a 3'' exhaust. stock 02 and exhaust on ported.

What do i do?

let me put it this way, how can i do this without spending a lot of money? Any different way to hook up hoses etc? THanks.

Taboo has a vac. line diagram on their site. I'd follow that if I were you. If you still cannot control boost, then you will need a larger wastegate.

also forgot to add that i did the vac line removal

as the quote says ^^^

but if i have some boost leaks, will it cause it to creep that bad? b/c i still have some leaks and i havent ofudn them all

very true, althou im just going by expierence, i had the same problem, i got the bigger flapper, and everything went good on from there

how much does it cost and is it a striaght forward install? Thanks.

For the flapper?? They are like $20 - $30. You have to cut the existing flapper off, then port the wastegate passage larger. The you weld the new flapper on where the old one was. It's the cheapest route, but it only works for some people. Probably 3/4.

The external 38mm Tial is about $210 plus roughly $70 for slowboy to weld it to the manifold.

I'll be buying the external right after Christmas. That way I'll never have to worry about creeping again; even if I switch to a different turbo.

WTF, this crap is really pissing me off, everytime i turn around i need to fix or change something. Still have not got my car running right after about 6 straight monthes of working on it. Im learning though, hopefully everything will turn out right when its all done.

this crap is making me sick though :barf: :barf:

also, what is the exhaust difference, what does the external waste gate do different? I am sitll a newbie when it coems to turbos, do they make exhaust manifolds where it owuld bolt right up to it? and still fit a 16g turbo? anyone go any pics of how it looks with the changes etc? Im more a visual person and dont know all the tech names yet.

Sure they make exhaust manifold where you can bolt right up and external waste gate. I havent see one yet that is for a 16g but I havent really looked hard for one.

That manifold above is any "example" of one for the T3 T4 turbos the extra flange on the side is where you bolt up and external wastegate

http://www.turbosaturns.net/articles/wastegate101.htm

There is a good right up above about how an Extrenal waste gate works.
(it has pictures :p ) Also, the picture in the upper right corner has a nice picture how the waste gate looks bolted up to you exhaust manifold.

If it's one thing our DSMs teach us (other than becoming mechanics), it is patience. Dont give up on it. :dsm:

It is simply a larger valve. It will be able to keep up with the exhaust flow of a nice, free-flowing turbo-back.

Yes, but they will run you about $400-$600 just for the manifold and then another $210 for the Wastegate. If you send your stocker to Slowboy, they'll charge $210 for the wastegate, $30 for porting, and $70 for parts and labor to mount the wastegate to the manifold. Totalling to $310 plus shipping. That is much, much cheaper than the aftermarket manifold route. :thumb:

thanks a lot guys for all the help, i would be lsot with out you, if it werent for thsi forum i would have sold my gsx and went back to non turbo.

How long is the turn around time? i hate being without my car and i only have my sisters car for a little mroe so i cant afford to be without a car for 3 weeks with school and work

Turn around time for what? There are several different suggestions here.

If you're referring to the external wastegate idea from Slowboy, then you might want to ask those guys at Slowboy. They would give you the most accurate answer. 724-349-8417.

It is a 3-4 day turn around once its recieved, unless you want porting and stuff as well. Then shipping time back to you.. Keep in mind you have to make a dump tube your self, and you need to specify 1g or 2g..

How much longer would it take for porting? Do you have the flange available, so we can make our own dump tube? I'll be sending mine in right after Christmas.

Thanks.
