My clutch throw out bearing had been grinding for a little while now but was told at aamco that it wasn't a big problem. Well on my way to work last night it got really loud but I could keep going so being stubborn, I continued on my way to work. Well..... It locked up on me and now I will prob need a new tranny. It is sitting at aamco now waiting for them to look at it, but when you are sitting on the side of the highway trying to flag someone down because you don't have a cell phone, and you look at the ground and see all of your gear oil spilling out......it's not fun. It still shifts into the gears but offers some great resistance in some gears but if I through the shifter around a little, it's almost as if what was there blocking it is now gone. But as of now my 93' Talon DL 1.8 is sitting.....waiting....this sucks. Anyone out there know what it might cost to have a new 5 spd thrown in plus clutch?

Ok. I got the official word from aamco today. It is going to cost me $1858 all together. Turns out I need a new; master cylinder, slave cylinder, right axle, and my flywheel needs to be replaced. This really sucks. :thumbdown

If you are going to spend that kind of money your better of getting built tranny.... SHEP TRANNY.

shit for that price your almost better off looking for a 1g turbo or another car..part your car out and take it for what its worth? 2K is a lot of money for that, if your gonna fix it take ^^^ advice and get a shep trans. well worth it

I think it would be money wasted to buy a Shep tranny for his 1.8l. I would suggest you either buy/install everything yourself, if you're so inclined, or just sell the car and buy another one.

I'm gonna have to say to get another car man. The value of 1.8Ls isn't that high and 1800 in repairs is damn near the book value of the entire car.

I excellent condition, you car is probably not worth more that $1800.

I would count my losses and get another car.

When I got my tranny fixed, it cost about $1000, slave and master cylinder where about $300, and one of my new axles was about $150, plus the cost of a new clutch and flywheel ($500), both ACT.

Gas to get to work- $23.00
Dinner on the fly at in and out burger- $4.87
Destroying you clutch on the way to work cuz AAMCO Lied- $1858.00 :barf:
Totalling out you car and upgrading to a 1g TSi AWD intead of repairing the DL...
PRICELESS. :thumb:
Really Sucks dude but ^^^^^^ They're right, probly better to move up to a turbo DSM at that price. Good Luck to you though.

Sorry about your luck, man. I would be looking at new cars too, if it's in the budget, or learn very fast how to to do all those repairs yourself and go scout for the parts you need.

I cannot stress enough when a repair shop tells you something like "it'll be okay, just keep driving with _____ problem/noise/whatever and you'll be okay" to get it IN WRITING and SIGNED by the mechanic that actually took a look at it (and possibly the signature of the manager or supervisor on duty). If something doesn't sound right, it's probably not.

Heh.. I was about to say the same thing. Seems to me that Aamco scammed you.

Aamco: "It's nothing to worry about"
You: *drives away*
Aamco tech to his boss: "Heh, heh.. better go ahead and order that new expensive tranny boss, he'll be back.

humm, my car grineds when i put it into 2nd no matter how far i have the clutch in, and my master brake cylinder whent up. same prob? 90 tsi

Sounds like you're headed for a new synchro purchase. :thumbdown
However, check the tranny fluid level just to be safe, and replace with some good tranny oil (GM, Royal Purple, and BG all make some good oils for transmissions, a buddy of mine liked the Mobil 1 he put in his too). If the grinding lessened or quit, congratulations, you may have staved off the purchase of new synchros for a little bit. Start saving!
