Hey everyone, I have been having trouble with my oil return line gasket leaking, like many others on this board.

I ordered a brand new gasket - twice, cleaned everything off/scraped clean etc., ordered the washers from the dealer for the bolts, and even brand new screws!

However, I still have a leak. I think its because I can't really torque the bolts down all that much. I think they may have got a bit stripped or something, but you cant really get a good nice snug tug on it...

I plan to drop the oil pan, and fix this problem. Now I need to know a few things:

1) What gaskets will I need for this install, besides the oil pan gasket (part number)?

2) I plan to use silicon for the gasket, as other members here seemed to have pretty decent luck doing that method. Should I first try a new oil return line gasket, after re-tapping the oil pan? Or just go straight to the silicon? After this project, I might not have access to tools/lift so I need to know which way to go.

3) What silicon is best for this situation? I was told to use a Chrysler "black" silicon...?

Any other tips/suggestions would be great! Thanks for the space!

Listen what I do with the same problem !

I suggest you do the same, this will be for ever. I take out the oil pan and remember the oil pan don't have a gasket, only mopar silicone (gray), when you get the oil pan out very clean and very straight, drill the OEM return center hole, next get a straight steell fitting 1/2 NPT to - 8 ($2.00, [NOT aluminum] ) get the oil pan to the mufler shop or a machine shop to weld the fitting 1/2 NPT Into the hole you drill In the oil pan, and block off the two litlle hole, weld too. Next you will buy a -8 braided hose (about 5" or 8 ") with two female fittings and make you new return oil line and never you wll have a leak again.

note: you have to make some change on the return fiting from the turbo to make the right conection to the -8 braided hose !

Good luck !

Are you putting copper crush washers under the bolt heads? Those nuts are through-holes, and oil will capillary out through the thread clearance. You can use wire terminals for copper washers.
Any high-temp silicone will be fine.

Thanks guys!

I'm gonna get some of the silicon... I did get the little washers right from the dealer... No change at all.

I would like to do it the other way, and creat a new line. But how do you adapt the line, to the current stock turbo oil return line? This is also my daily driver, so the downtime would suck haha!

Anymore tips about creating a gasket w/silicon?

I'd like to drop the pan, and fix those threads somehow... Whats the easiest way to do this? If I drill it out, and tap it - then I'd have to use a larger dia. bolt. Would this work alright?

Thanks again! ;)
