ok i just got my car a few weeks ago (first car, first dsm) and she sold it cus it wouldent start and dyed on the hyway in 5th at 55mph. i got the car 90 talon tsi awd and it started right up... so i drove it around the block, nothing happend untell i was driving for about 10 min at speed limets on back roads. the car just stoped getting power in 3rd at 35-40. i downshifted and hit the gass, no power but the engen was on it was just winding down. when i stoped it died. i couldent start is for 30 min but after it started and i drove right home 1 mile away and parked it for the day. it started right up the next day fine. this happed 2 times both in 3rd gear at 35-40 mph in the rain up hill. i think its the ecu or coil pack\ alternater which ever it has. happens when the car gets to about normal runnung temp.

well many of us deal with a hot start problem, ie. re starting the car when its hot, it will misfire/stumble at first... but youre problem does sound more electircal.
im thinking ecu, but important thing for you to do with this car, as its 15 years old, and a talon LOL... go over EVERYTHING... change plugs, wires, check for intake leaks, intake leaks, intake leaks!!!! clean the throttle body, intercooler etc.. basically due a really good tune up on the car.
then pull the ecu, and replace the caps.. or if its already destroyed get a new ecu.
the thing is, after 15 years, if those caps have never been replaced... they will be leaking, i can almost guarantee it.
good luck.
