Lol well the car I just bought for $500 has NO compression at all. I first started it for like 30 seconds and it ran horrible and sputtered and spitted everywhere and backfired through the exhaust manifold...but the internals sounded fine, did not sound like an metal to metal contact. So I thought maybe the timing is off. Checked the timing and all marks lined up and the crank timing mark was set at 0 for TDC. So then I did a compression test...not 1 PSI of air. Did a leak down, same result not 1 PSI. It was this way all across the board. I have never ever seen a car not hold one PSI of pressure. I guessing the ringlands are completely gone. What are the experts take on this?

crappy pics of the car in case you didnt see them in the hangout:

When you do your leakdown test first of all make sure the cylinder your doing is on top dead center. When you hook it up listen where the air is going, intake, exhaust or oil dip stick/ valve cover breather. This will tell you the problem. Dip stick is piston or rings, intake or exhaust manifold is valves.

i just did a rebuild and it was smoking badly.... so tore it apart and my ring landing were all jacked up the rebuild had 20-30 miles on it ( defective pistons i presume)i still held 90 90 90 and 30 psi i got a picture in my gallery.

Well I guess the next step is to remove the head. I have never done any kinda of work on a car like this before alone so WISH ME LUCK! I bought a haynes manuel for refrence but I should be fine.

gee that picture looks familar. i had the same problem with mine and it's at the machine shop now. good thing i had a spare head for the extra vavles. i should have a few left over if you are interested. let me know what all you need and we can work something out. i have no need for them as i'm selling the car as soon as she gets running. you can check at your local parts stores but you won't like the prices they give you. you can give me a holler at [email protected].
