help on a 3000gt non turbo SOHC

a friend of mine has a '98 3000gt non turbo sohc. he put a intake on it. he cranked it up with out the MAF hooked up to move it(dont ask, i thought he was smarter than that). well it messed something up?

when just cruising at bout 2.5-3k rpms it hesitates and slight jumps? i put some new spark plugs (NGK V-Power) and wires (auto lite) on it for him(he didnt tell me about crankin it without the MAF hooked up until a few days ago) . but after he cranked it up with out the MAF hooked up it has been doin this and it is very slow, smell a lot of gas out the tailpipes. almost like its puttin too much in it? my ext cab 5.3 silverado will smoke it like it was standing still. he said it is supposed to be fast? can the computer just be flashed or something???

also when we get this problem fix wants a DOHC set up? is this possible? or a waste of time?

how about plug the MAS back in? Also check the wires where they plug into the coil pack. Make SURE that the metal piece is going into the coil pack and not stuck between the boot and pack... ive seen this before. Are there any other mods that would effect fuel or such? Just an intake?

quite likely MAF problem. Check for bent honeycomb- did he try to remove any of it?
