 I dont know what i did wrong but ive tried connecting my battery 2 times and it jus arcs and blows the alt. fuse. Im trying to get my car ready to start, I just finished doin a n/t to turbo swap and engine rebuild, everything worked fine when the motor was still on the stand. I hooked up the battery and checked all electrical funtions in the car(radio, mirror, lights, etc...) and everything worked fine. Now that i have the motor in and everything is hooked up to the motor, all it does is arc when i go to connect the positive terminal. I did relocate my battery to the trunk if that matters but i have had it hooked up and working since then. Someone please help me decipher this problem or direct me to a link w/ a similar problem. It would be very much appreciated. :talon: :thumb: :thumbdown

If your saying your blowing your alt fuse check and make sure that the wires going to the alt are not grounding out on anything, you may want to pull the wires off the alt and try hooking up the battery then, after that reconect the alt wires and make sure they are correct.

Its the main fuse thats in the fuse box under the hood. Its a black 80 amp that u have to unbolt to remove. I assume its the alt. fuse since thats what it says on the cover. Thanks though i will try hooking things up w/o the alternator hooked up and see if that works. Anyone else got any suggestions or possibilities?

Ok, I asked about the starter a lil while ago and i guess it was too simple of a question to be answered on these forums cuz i never got an answer. How exactly does the starter hook up? I have a 12v power hooked up to the terminal closest to the firewall and the ignition wire w/ the spade connector is plugged into the only spade terminal on the starter. I assumed that the starter grounded itself when bolted to the motor. I have 2- 4 gauge ground straps, 1 bolted to the trans side of the motor and one to the belt side. I also have the battery itself grounded to the floor in the hatch.

I found out what my problem was. I had the alternator grounding out. Where does the double white wire w/ the loop on the end hook up to. I was told it goes on the stub that sicks out but thats what was making it arc out when i hooked up the battery. I dont see any other studs it could go on. I still also need to know how the starter hooks up. Any help will be appreciated.

Sounds like youve got the starter done right. Dont worry about that anymore. I would find someone who has an eclipse and look at their car for a refrence. (since I cant remember right now exactly how it goes together and its too dark for me to go out and look at mine)

The spade terminal on the starter is the ground! Theres a stud coming off the back of the starter that the hot wire it suppose to be attached to. Besure to keep the stud covered, arcing is bad.

I got it all figured out now, the starter is hooked up correct having a 12v power hooked up to the terminal towards the firewall and then having the spade connecter where it goes. The alternator situation i figured out was because the place that rebuilt the alternator forgot to put the lil red plastic piece on the stud that keeps it from touching the casing. Luckily I had another alternator to look at and steal the part from. :thumb: Thanks for all the help. I need more but its posted in the n/t-turbo conversion forum. :talon:

I think you got the starter wired wrong. The spade on the starter is the ground and the stud on the opposite side of the gear/side is the power stud. Its really odd that wire hasnt melted on you yet.
