The other day I noticed a kind of metal on metal grinding noise that seemed to be coming from the right front side of my car. I can only really notice it when slowing down to a stop like under 20 mph. It just sounds like something is rubbing against something everytime the wheel rotates. It especially does it when making turns, specifically right hand turns. The car is a 96 AWD Eclipse with 83, 000 miles and basic stage 1 bolt ons. Let me know what you think or if you need more info just let me know. Thanks.

I didn't really think to check the brakes because when I go to slow down I can press on the brakes and they are fine no noise. The sound comes when I am coming to a stop and am not even pressing the brakes just coasting. I thought it might be the brakes too but the way it makes that sound when I am turning and just coasting makes me think it's something else. So no I haven't actually gotten out and taken the tire off and physically inspected them. It doesn't seem brake related. Do you think wheel bearing maybe? I don't know I'm kinda lost when It comes to that kind of thing I'm more of an engine guy.

I would agree with the above post and atleast check the brakes out. If not, there have been some people who have had problems with the dust shield rubbing up against the rotor. Just take the tire off and take a quick look. Couldn't hurt, right?

I haven't really had the time this week with work to check it out so it will have to wait till the weekend. One question. On my way to work this morning I am starting to notice a grinding sound when I hit the brakes so it probably could be my brake pads are shot like you guys said. Now my question is if the brake pads were worn out or whatever is wrong with the brakes, would I still hear that rubbing metal against metal sound when the brakes aren't applied and Iam just coasting to a stop? Because I am hoping that it's just new brake pads that I need and not something more serious. Like I said I am not a pro on brakes. Thanks for the help guys and if you have anymore input I would really appreciate it.
