ok i just put in a new tranny and got it all back together and i went to start in and it wouldnt fire. it turns over but wont start. i have no idea what the problem is. any help would b great thanks

Start with the basics, check for spark and fuel. Most likely one of those is missing. The easiest (but not the safest) way to check for fuel is to take the return line of the fuel rail and crank the car. If gas squirts out, you have fuel. Checking the injectors is more complicated, and I suggest you leave that to a pro. To check for spark, pull one the plug wires and insert a long screwdriver into the end. Place the shaft of the screwdriver over a ground, about 1/2 inch away (try to get it so you dont have to hold the screwdriver, otherwise you might get a nasty shock). Have someone crank the car, watch to see if a spark jumps from the shaft to the ground. If it does, you have spark. If not, you'll have to trace it back, in which case you should either invest in a manual or take it to a pro. And one other quick thing you can check is the caps in the ecu. Look it up on www.vfaq.com you'll find a whole page on checking the caps.

The plugs and wires don't produce the saprk, they just transmit it to the combustion chamber. That comes from the coil and transistor, and even further back, the ECU. Check for spark.

OK, I just saw this, I dont know if you fixed it yet. But if not, you'll have to trace back the problem. Its most likely not the wires, so you're next step is the coil. You'll need a manual to help you out with checking that. Then after that its the transistor, then ECU. It's gets a little complicated, you may want to take it to a shop.

If you have a fellow Dsm'er try swaping out the coil pack and power transistor with theres. One at a time. Put yours in there car or there part in yours. Maybe you could track it down that way. Good luck.

An easy way to check your coil is to make sure it has power and ground!
Get a test light clip it to the negative side of the battery, T-pin the coil power wire and when you turn the ignition switch to the on position the test light should light up.
For checking ground, clip the test light to the positive side of the battery and T-pin the ground wire of the coil. When cranking the engine the test light should flash.
