:talon: ok heres the problem my talons been sittin for a while only because the altinator went out , so one day i got bored in i just wanted to fire it up on the charger for'a friend to here , well i got it fired up after several trys but right after i got it started ( about 2sec) i herd a click from the mpi relay in it died instantly, so the next day i checked everything in made sure everything was alright in i knew they had to be because the last time i started it it ran fine but i just wanted to make sure, in everything was in its place as useual, then i pulled out the mpi relay from under the dash becuase thats where the click was comin from , so i riped it apart and noticed that theres 2 little silinoids (i think thats what their called) well when you turn the car on one of the silinoids click in when you crank it over the other one clicks in knowin that one was for the fuel pump i knew the problem was that it wasnt gettin eny fuel after it clicked so.... i got anuther brite idea in i jammed a piece of cardboard in it so the silinoid would stay closed in walah! it ran fine but im still wonderin what the problem is in why its cutting out right after i get it started in why aint the silinoid stayin closed, :( checked all fuses in under the hood in there all good i think

eny help or ideas would be highly appriciated because im just lost

hey i need sum help bad guys , this cars beutifull! LOL i love it in its my baby in its tha matter of life & death oif an bad A$$ talon tsi

Sounds like your ECU isn't keeping the fuel pump relay turned on. Have you checked to see if your capacitors in your ECU have leaked? If they have it's not uncommon for the electrolyte to eat through one of more of the traces on the board. Since people don't usually notice until the car stops running I often find that either the fuel pump circuit is out or the ISC circuit is out from leakage.

well i checked the ecu too when i went to take apart the mpi relay, in yes there was just alittle bit of residue on it from the caps but i had to make a second glance at it because you could barley see it, i scaped the glued- on like stuff off in i dont think it ate threw enything , it doesnt realy look like enything major , like maby i cought it before it got too bad im not that sure but i think you might be right , i wish i had a pic of what a bad ecu looked like , i wasnt realy hopin for this one but do you think i could problay run a switch to turn that one silinoid on ? would it hurt it eny? cuz ever since i stuck that piece of cardboard in there its done ok ,

in theres one more thing , my car is realy hard to start it almost all the tiem needs a battery charger to get it goin and eaven with that it cranks real slow i've tryed i dont kno how many batterys and eaven jump started it with my other car in it still cranks like its gotta dead battery or sumthin , i got a new altinator , this ones a mitsu not'a cheap one from tailand ;)

Do you think i could run a switch to turn that one solenoid on? Would it hurt it any?

My car is realy hard to start it almost all the time needs a battery charger to get it going and even with that it cranks real slow

There are pictures of bad (some pretty bad) ECUs here

Hooking up a switch to ground the ECU control over the fuel pump is a safety hazzard and if you forget to turn it off will run your battery down.

As far as cranking, start by checking your battery terminals making sure they are clean and tight. Check the cables amd make sure battery acid hasn't started eating them away. Measure the resistance of the cables disconnected and then the battery voltage idle and when cranking. Make sure your alternator fuse isn't popped.

well man i poped out the ecu agin today to have anuther look at it , im pretty sure its toast but not that bad?, enyways yea there was a little electrolyte on the board but it hasnt ate threw it yet but the real little square things (sorry i dont kno what there called) were real dark allmost black like the ones you sent me in the pics, so i took witch hazel because i couldnt find eny peroxide in i didnt want to use brake cleaner or paint thinner in take off the coat of rubbery stuff they spray on tha board when they make them to protec it from whatever, enyways the witch hazel took off all the electrolyte or whatever i could get off in put it back in the car but it still did the same thing unsurprisingly,

i dont think im going to do the hole switch turn on thow to the mpi

but what i am wanting to kno is if you can use at n/a ecu on a turbo car , i've herd that the n/a's got rev limiters on them in if i did hook one up it wouldnt rev that far, and if you can use a ecu off a standard car and hook it up to a auto,

thanx so far man you've been a big help

thanx for answerin that for me cuz i gotta friend with'a 92 n/a eclipse gsx? sposably he sez in he said it would work but half the time he dont kno what he's talkin about so i figured i'd ask in find out , he does accualy got aobut 3 extra ecu's but i doubt the'll be eny help , guess im out to scout the junk yards for now , but would i have to look for the exact same ecu as the one i got, talon fwd turbo auto?

the car he's got is a NA 4g63 but he keeps tellin me its a "gsx" i think he's retarded.. because i have anuther dsm and its just a gs and and its NA so i was alittle sceptical one that one, i didnt mean for it to sound like he put'a non-turbo engin in a gsx i was tryin to make it sound like he didnt kno waht he was talkin about , thats all i'll correct his stupid a$$ when i see him today in tell him he dont know enything about cars

Just checking, Only the AWD version of the Eclipse is called a GSX and all the TEL AWD versions were turbocharged from the factory. There is a NA AWD Galant called a GSX but since we are talking DSM I was sure that didn't apply.

Here's a list of DSM ECU's you can use the '91 -93 ones from the 1G Federal Turbo AT column, either AWD or FWD in your car without change. The MT ones if you swap the 450 injectors from the MT car over, and any Turbo EPROM version with a chip to match your car's needs.
