This is very annoying... My car makes some kind of metal to metal rattling sound like something is loose..but only happens during accelleration. It gets louder as the rpms go up.. I even put the car in neutral while coasting and revved it up no rattling sounds only when its in gear...any ideas where this can becoming from?? I checked everything, seems fine nothing lose...thanks for your time.

i have the same problem on my freshly built 6-bolt....it will make a rattling/heat shield type sound when it goes to a certain rpm...it wont do it all the time through the rpms either.....i dont have balance shafts, my oil pump and case are brand new from slowboy...i think its aftermarket....it almost sounds as if gears were rubbing together like possibly the oil pump gears or something(it is aftermarket).....my crank pulley looks fine also..any ideas? this sound is very annoying, especially since i just got done spending a ton of $$$ on a built motor

EDIT: the sound is almost like a belt sqealing but i pulled all the belts and the timing cover before and started it up but it still made that noise

well its sounds cheap and loose....I hope its my heat shield cause its missing bolts notice it when i was snooping around some more in my engine bay...thanks for the help

I have a cheap/loose sound that comes from my engine when I pass . . . 3k rpms I believe it is. Turns out that one of the bolts holding my ex.manifold on rattled loose somewhere and decided to depart. But I've just never gotten around to replacing it- do hope that's you're problem.

removed heat shield still does it, im thinking it like a pully or something..cant be the alt.. its 3 months old..hmmmm..what sucks is that i dont have the time to be on in all day checking it out...siiigh...DSM drama..LOL..

yea those are some good possbilities.. It could be both..LOL. Lets see my engine idles fine and yet when u look at the motor it looks like it has a small idle problem by the way it moves..same as steering wheel at idle can feel the motor running, plus mines auto so when ever i put it in R or D the car would move/very slight jerk... from what i was told that could be motor mounts...i dunno im no A+ mech. How much for the mounts, and how long does it usually takes to replace??..asking becuase shop hour rates is 80 bucks an hour =/
Nice 1g!

There is a 90 talon tsi awd for sale in my area and the description says:
This car has motor problems, motor sounds like a box or rocks, may need a new head or valve job.

The price is 2000 but I know I could get it cheaper.

the question is: is it worth it cause it has engine problems. I figure that I'd probably get it rebuilt with a 2.3 stroker kit.

Just wondering what yall thouhgt. :dsm: rocks!!!!

I think u can get a good/fair running turbo 1g for that price

Most the one I see are 3 to 4 thousand :thumbdown , and I was looking for one stock or close to stock and the miles are good 118k.
Some dealer ship has had for a while, and could most likely be talked down considerably like to 1000 or less :thumb: I think i'm going to go look at it to find out how bad it sounds and if it runs good. maybe then I can change my sig to "sadly isn't fast enough yet!"

Oo Thats kinda high, here in florida turbo 1gs are hard to find, but i see a lot of 2g's gst for like 5-6 grand from dealerships..Its tempting to get one financing, but im not sure i can afford the full coverage insuraunce..plus what if something goes wrong with the motor..while ur paying it off...so thats why i still have my 1g n/t..LOL. but good luck finding 1

its prolly engine knock.....i have a n/t also and it knocks terrible sometimes, the n/t motor has higher compression than the turbo motor, and it does'nt have a knock sensor, so no way for the ecu to control knock at all.......the knock gets worse as the engine gets carbon built up inside......check to make sure your egr valve is working properly, then you might try changing to colder plugs, and do a de-carb on the engine........also check your ignition timing too, make sure its set to factory specs............one of the easiest things is to add some race fuel to the gas and then listen for the sound, if its gone then it was knock...... :dsm:

Yes! Problem was my waterpump going out, So i jus bought a timing belt kit, new water pump and all the seals i needed, cause i was leaking both coolant and oil from the timing belt side..200 dollars later on labor problem solved..=D.. No rattling, No leaks, and plus my car idles so much smoother than it did before..Now i feel better when i drive
