I have just put a 92' Eclipse GSX engine in my car. It runs like a dream. However, everytime I get on it and let the turbo spool up, I smell gas. Its not over whelming or anything...but its noticable. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, whats wrong (if anything) and how do I fix it? Please help.... :dsm: :thumb:

Perhaps it's boost leaking past your injector seals and taking fuel with it....
Mine did that and I bought all 12 seals, and it doesn't fuel or boost now.....
Just a thought being that you are a 92....

Look above.

injector seals are cheap from the dealership. after shipping if you order them i would be surprised if oyu saved money mine were like $2 each bought i just replaced the insulator

its says that up above but i can gurantee its not that

i would be surprised if it was

seems like something else when it only happens at boost because fuel pressure stays about the same.

but i would be surprised if he can smell that little bit from the 0 rings insulators because my were shot to hell hard as a rock when i replaced and didn't smell gas

needs to check vaccuum line on fuel return. and check all fuel lines. for a minor leak when you floor the pressure regulator has to adjust if it is a little bad it could be leaking some gas that would be possible to smell and sometimes it can go bad with no symptons of the car

gutted cats are illegal.

hey-

the smell of gas is just your exhaust probabaly...it says u have a gutted cat...if u ever mess with you cat or open up your exhaust in any way then chances are it will smell like gas just because a lot more gas is getting pushed through the exhaust...if it doesnt affect performance than i wouldnt worry about it.

I think the key word is While Boosting he smells fuel....
If he had a fuel leak say at the filter, regulator or any other fuel component, he'd smell fuel all the time.... He says that he only smells fuel while boosting....
A service manual may in trouble shooting this problem as well.

92 gsx engine in a 93 n/t....
There are 3 different seals on the injector themselves.....
Insulators-found in the head, injectors seat on these.

Sheet-fits between injectors and fuel rail, it acts as a cushion when the fuel rail is torqued on.

O-Ring-tanish in color and seats on the end of the injector that fits inside the fuel rail.

Injector #4 on my car actually leaked fuel onto the intake runner just beneath the injector.
I smelled fuel and did a boost leak check and sure enough when doing a boost leak check, fuel leaked out....

Like I said above, take a look at your injector seals, they're less than $30 shipped from the dealer.......

I'll have to take my fuel rail off and check the seals. Also it seems like my gas milage has gone way dow aswell. I'm not sure if it is because its turbo...or its leaking. I just realized the gas milage because I have now used a full tank and I was calculating the gas milage....

Speaking of fuel mileage.....
I used to get about 330 miles out of a tank of gas.
My car thru a CEL at me, I scanned it, and it is p0443....
Emissions system purge valve fault.... or something like that.
I noticed that I smelt a fuel odor coming from the passenger side firewall when I'd walk by her.
My fuel mileage dropped about 30 miles per tank.
I cleared the code and removed the hose that goes from the Charcoal Canister
to the Intake tube just before the turbo and taped off the fitting at the intake tube.
I have no more CEL's, but now my mileage is crappy and I'm not emissions legal.
They say the charcoal cansiter is there to help burn off the fuel vapors from the fuel tank.
An inproperly operating Charcoal Canister can let fuel evaporate from the fuel tank.
Just a thought....
I bought a vacuum tester and I plan on checking out the Purge Valve Solenoid this week sometime....
