Hey Guys I was wondering, I know Foreign Cars are supposed to last a lot longer than any Domestics. But I was wondering If 112,000 miles on a 97 Mitsubishi Eclipse Convertible sounds like a lot? I know mileage doesnt really mean that much as long as the car was babied, but home many people here have a second gen. over 100,000 miles. The car seems like a good buy for 5,500, even KBB lists it at $7,700. Has anyone hit any big problems with 2nd gens over 100,000miles. thanks guys

These are domestic cars. If you are looking at a DSM, I suggest a GST spyder over an N/A.

Yes, you can run a lot of mileage on modern cars. The single greatest factor in high mileage dependability is maintenance. Check how well the owner cared for the Spyder.

What are some things I should check for on the car of the vechicle? Rust?

Yeah, check the front and rear wheelwells. Check the front and rear (under hatch or hood appropriately) for repaired body damage; if you find any, make sure it was repaired correctly. Check to ensure that you are looking at a 4G63T only. Make sure the clutch is not slipping. Watch all gauges, and allow the car to sit idling long enough to display any coolant issues. Bring the car to a mechanic before you buy (not your buddy that knows how to wire Alpines, go to a real mechanic) but after the car has passed your initial inspection. Don't fall in love with the potential, be cold and calculated with the car before you. :thumb:

nutshot pretty much nailed it for the most part. (no pun intended)

I just wanted to add that for a '97 that does seem like a really high number. My 95's only got about 107k on it, that's with 2 extra years of the car being on the road too.

112k miles is a lot for a 1997 DSM. I would rather spend a little more for a low mileage car. I just bought a 1997 Talon AWD with only 31k miles. It has every option, including leather and power sun roof. Paid $7,500 for it. It took me 6 months to find it but it was worth the wait Belonged to a doctors wife who rarely drove it. Deals are out there if you are patient. :) :) :)

I got my 92 laser with 29,999 miles on it. I bought it for 5 g's, it is worth every penny. In june 03, the car felt like it drove from the showroom floor, smelled like it was just off the showroom floor and definately looked like it, with no flaws on the body at all.

Now one year later, being my daily driver, it has 59,000 miles on it. I still love it.

This car took me like 6 months to find and it was located about 10 blocks from me. LOL. I guess I just overlooked it.

Doesn't sound like a bad deal.

You should get the crank checked out, to see how much play it has. You don't want to be stuck with a crankwalker.

my car is at 110,000 miles on it now, still running only problems usualy are from just normal wear and tear

my 2g has 150k near enough on the clock and still ticking...(but in need of major repairs). I however am the 5th owner. The first owner babied it, the next 2 beat the hell out of it and the last owner and myself have babied it...so I figured it was comming.
