When ever I start the car in the morning the engine is still cold I let the car idle for about 45 sec to a 1 min to warm up some. As soon as I get it into gear and start to head to work I hear this whining nosie. It only happens when the engine is cold and it whines till about 3k rpms then it just kinda goes away. Till I go to another gear then the whine will return again till I go over 3k rpms it goes away. Then after about 10mins of driving the whine it self goes away no matter what rpm. The reason this is bugging me is the CEL will come on after I have been driving for 5 mins. Any one know what this whine is it sounds like it is comming from the passenger side near the tranny also is there are way to pull the code off the ECU with device or program without going to the dealer?

Well when I was heading to work today I drove with the radio off. I can hear a faint sound of metal rattleing around the same area on the passenger side almost sounds like something is lose.

Stop driving your car! Find somebody with a datalogger or a mechanic dat can diagnose the problem.

I stopped driving the car put it up on jacks. I have a Datalogger my self the only thing I see that is weird is my Cool sensor is acting up it keeps jumping from 216 deg F to -68 deg F and keep in mind the temps changes are random as well it just jumps from positive to negative. I am going to clean it up might be some build up seeing as I replaced the sensor 4 months ago. As far as the metal noise I am lost the reason I dont take my car to a mechanic is because no one and I mean no one around here knows what the hell they are doing. I have been to 3 mechanics with no luck each time. I odd thing is that when I was logging last night I started to accel slowly and watched my timming and it went from 35 deg in 5th gear when I got on it a little more It droped to 18 deg and stayed there with
0 counts of knock.

:talon:

im willing ti bet that the metal noise is your tranny going, ive been there........
was making like a metal on metal rubbing noise(not a normal tranny grind when u o into gear) and then its just went, had to hold it in 2nd gear whole ride home bi*** wouldnt stay in any gear, luckily i was close

pulled tranny found bits of metal the size of dimes, get that shit checked out cuz itll suck real bad when it goes

Well considering I had the Tranny rebuilt about 8 months ago by a local guy around here I knew him he does good work. but I got a huntch it is the shift rail, seeing as I cant put the car in reverse unless I put it in a foward gear first. but I still dont know if the whining would be related to the tranny.

:talon:

But if you are right and my tranny goes I will just give shep a call I hear he does excellent work.

Mine does the same thing, except it doesn't throw a CEL. I'm pretty sure it's the water pump.

I'm doing the timing belt soon anyway, so I'm gonna just replace that and call it a day.
