Last night a friend and I were doing some work on the car and when we went to put the bolt back on the spark plug cover it fell into the cam gears.......AHHH. So I wasn't sure what to do so..( Not thinking correctly) I cranked over the car and my friend said he saw the cams jump a little. I believe that my timing is now off by three teath. But, itr seemed to be running just fine, infact, even better and faster.

Then today while preping to change the clutch I noticed that theres a small groove developing in the T-belt. So obviously the bolt is lodged in the cover scraping on the belt. Need help on what to do. Again, car seems to be running even better with the exception of the groove in the belt...PLEASE HELP ME ASAP

Thanx for the help in advance...

Mark

Are you kidding??? OMG

Rip that shit apart, remove the bolt, and now replace the timing belt/etc.

Park it! Don't drive it untill you change that belt and time it correctly. You do understand if it snaps or jumps too far you'll bend up all your valves and really screw your engine up.

Even if you have a hunch you timing is off you always need to stop and check.
Honestly you were crazy or you don't fully understand the importance of that area.
At this point I would consider you very extreamly lucky that that bolt hasn't tottaly trashed things..It could easily jump up and do far worse things that put that groove in you belt..wich alone is heartattack material imo.

Its crazy expesnive to have it done so check out VFAQ.COM it shows how to do it. That is if your comfortable doing it.

Hey guys,

I know that im not supposed to drive it like that b/c trust me Ive gone throught the bent valves and all...... But, I have to use this car for work on Monday.

Theres really only ONE option left for me at this point. I have a buddy thats knows everything about DSM's so I'll have to beg him to do an emergency T-belt job tomorrow..... thanx for the help.

Just trying to see if there was ANYTHING I could have done but oh well.

If he can't do it, you've obviously already been driving the car with not any real ill effects, for the very very short term it may be safe (NO gaurntees here, I would not put my car at this risk) but you could possibly unbolt the timing cover and slide the bolt(or whatever you dropped in) out, this way no additional damage will be done to your t-belt, as long as it doesnt snap of coarse. If you do drive it, baby the thing like you've never babied it before.

yeah atleast get that bolt out. You could do that yourself. You might not have to remove the engine mount to convince the bolt to fall out.

Thax for all your interest.

But, I will be getting this problem fixed tomorrow for $175 from a buddy, so i WILL baby it to his house..... Hopefully nothing will happen on the 5 minute ride.

I actually tried to remove the bolt by loosening the cover, but, I wasn't able to get anything out. Oh well, well see tomorrow.

Wish me luck. Thanx for the info....
