Backfire!

While doing about 20mph at about 2500 to 2800 rpms she lets out a huge explosion from the exhaust. Also I feel that I might need a O2 sensor, because my A/F guage is going crazy. It fades and comes back again. It has been happening for a while but has recently gotten worse.
