Here's the problem I'm currently facing. I've got a car that needs to get recertified by the state after the engine was replaced. However, they require proof that the engine wasn't stolen. I purchased an engine from a legitimate local company who deals a lot with JDM engines puchased in containers that have been shipped from Japan. As such, he doesn't have a VIN number for the vehicle that the engine came out of and this is no surprise since virtually all of the engines he receives are just that, engines without the rest of the car to take up space in the container.
Basically, all I have to go off of is the 6 character code stamped on the block of the engine I purchased and I need the corresponding VIN number. There simply has to be some way to match a valid VIN number to this code, since they (the state) is requiring a VIN number to cross reference it with.
What I need is for some 2G guys to email or PM me their vin numbers along with their engine numbers (it's the 6 character number stamped on the block to the right of the turbo). Once I have enough numbers I hope to find some correlation between the serial portion of the VIN (or perhaps it integrates some combination of the rest of the VIN). I will of course post if I have found a useful tool for corresponding engine serial numbers and VIN numbers (probably make a VFAQ of it as well).
Thanks in advance.
