Well it's almost midnight and I'm done for today. I just finished my little project; rebuilt head, head gasket, ARP studs, blah blah blah lots of gaskets and other replacement maintnence parts. I started it up after the timing belt was on and tensioned and everything was fine. I put the covers back on and put the pulleys and accessory belts on and started it up again. The loudest squeel I've ever heard came from the car. I turned it off, looked over everything. Started it again and the same thing. Then I turned it off after about 10 seconds and the alternator belt was HOT to the touch. I'm guessing the pulley is just spinning inside the belt but I'm not sure, I just came inside for the night. I thought I'd throw this up here so if it's something common, I'll know about it when I go out tomorrow afternoon to finish her up. So if you've got any ideas or common problems I should check for, I'd appreciate it.

Eh, get a new belt. These pissy flat things with the multi-Vs just don't work as well as the old-fashioned real V-belts. Once they start to age and glaze, it seems like they want a lot more pressure to get their grip. Try tightening it a bit, but don't plan on it working.

And yeah, I hate them too.

simple fix, your belt is too tight or too loose. thats common knowledge

and the point of this post was??

like defiant already posted....

could be a hardened old shitty belt - with less grip
also oil could be leaking onto the belt

They're new belts btw, sorry I left that out. I'm back home now so I'll figure it out (probably just too loose, but I was too tired to trouble shoot last night) and I'll post back with the results. stay tuned
