I am in the process of removing my crankshaft pulley and want to know if I've done everything correctly so far and what the next steps are. So far I got the two drive belts off, removed the passenger side motor mount, and removed the stock bolt from the crankshaft pulley. I rented a 3 toothed 5 ton gear pulley at Autozone but when I use it to get the pulley off, the pulley rotates with it. So I wedged a crowbar inside a gap in the pulley so it wouldn't rotate. Is it bad that the pulley rotated a little; will this mess up the cam timing? It rotated both clockwise and counterclockwise, nothing major like a full rotation, just rotated a little bit. What do you guys use to prevent the pulley from rotating when using the 3 toothed gear pulley? Would having someone sit in my car in fifth gear with the brake pressed down HARD prevent it from rotating? I didn't have a longer-than-stock bolt to screw into the pulley so I wasn't able to remove the pulley yet. I tried other methods, but the pulley wouldn't budge. Is it normal for it to take a long difficult time in removing the pulley? This is how far I've gotten so far. I also need to buy a new crankshaft pulley. I could use a recommendation on where to get it. Autozone is out of stock and I don't want to pay over twice as much at satan. I saw it at Buschur Racing for $100. Please let me know how I'm doing with this crankshaft pulley removal. Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated.

if you are just taking the pulley off, why did you remove the crank sprocket bolt? Leave that in there. Take a pry bar and start prying at the edges of the pulley. Work your way around. Much easier.

The diagram in the factory manual said you had to, but I'm going to buy a longer screw and screw that in then use the puller tool.

I had a F@$%ing hell of a time getting my pulley off. I beat on it and tried a puller. I broke down and bought some PB blaster sprayed it on. Waited a few minutes, hit it on the inside of the hub with a hammer two times and the damn thing almost fell right off! imo accept no imitations get blaster if your not already using it.

even if you are using blaster smack it with a hammer carefully(don't bend or break it) on the inside to help the blaster penetrate and break free the rust. Then perhaps use the puller.

I accidently rotated mine aproximatly 10 degrees each way with no ill effects. We have different motors I think though.
Good luck!
