last night, a friend and i raced around just for the hell of it. my first time really racing around since i got my gsx. my buddy has a taurus SHO. last nite when we were racing around, the turbo seemed to kick in sometimes, then other times wouldnt not kick it. earlier in the night, the turbo would spool and stop spooling for longer periods of time. as the nite went on and we raced some more, those time intervals seemed to shorten to the point when during some runs, the turbo would spuratically spool on and off during one 0-60 pull.

well today, the turbo wasnt spooling at all. the stock boost gauge was reading like it normally does. it went up as rpms went up. but now, it kind of dropped back down as i pass ~6000 and went towards 7000.

then later on, i went to a shop to get my timing belt replaced. got it all done, but now theres this loud ass sound coming from my engine somewhere. it kind of soudns like a civic runninig cat-less. or if you strike metal with other metal a few hundred times per minute. but this sound only comes up at 4000rpm which i believe is when the turbo normally spools faster. i put my head over the engine bay as i had it revved to 4500 and it sounds like its coming from the turbocharger

is it possible i f'ed the compressor wheel and now its somehow losing its place and hitting the turbo wall as rpm increases? and if so, what is this supposed to sound like?

just yank off the intake pipe and see if you can move the wheel... if you can, this is called shaft play... see if the wheel looks dinged up. and if you can move the shaft more than like 2mm up/down, that's not so good. and it obviously shouldn't be able to touch the housing. hope that helps. very easy, only takes a few mins
