My 1992 TSi wont start, won't crank.....won't do anything and I just got a NEW REMANUFACTURED ALTERNATOR put in. I went to Autozone and had the battery checked and it checked out good so that isn't the problem.

Symptoms of car:

When you get in to start it dash lights come on, but as you turn the key all the lights shut off as if the battery died, but it isn't a dead battery and I just got a NEW Alternator installed 3 days ago?

What could possibly be wrong? If the alternator is new and the battery is good?

ANY HELP ON THIS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED SO I CAN GET THIS CAR BACK ON THE ROAD!

Sounds like a ground problem to me. Make sure your cables are tight on the battery then follow the ground and make sure it is grounded to the chassis(sp?)

Check EVERY single wire from the battery AND from the starter..see where theres power..then use a test light or a DMM and track each wire to see if the power quits some where..hopefully u will be lucky and just forget soem random wire that goes to the battery. :p

Sounds like a battery cable making poor contact. Remove battery cables (and big one to starter) and clean both ends of all corrosion and muck with wire brush and sandpaper. Also clean battery and starter posts. Then retighten cables on securely. If this doesn't work you probably have a cable with a bad wire connection to it's end terminal and need to replace it.

I took the battery out and as I said had AUTOZONE check it out. They said it was a good Battery, however I decided to charge it myself with my battery charger and it has charged on whole day with a 2 amp slow charge and still is not reading 100%.

Now I got home and switched it to 10 amp charge rate for more than an hour and it is still reading the same not 100%.

I think it may be the battery afterall, because the car was running right after I got it from the shop. for almost two days with no problem. The battery drained all the way down and they had to charge it so

 PROBLEM IS SOLVED

SOLUTION: although battery checked as good at AUTOZONE....it wasn't good. Somehow and someway it was malfunctioning even though the test at AUTOZONE said it was good. I took the battery out cleaned the connectors very well of any corrosion and I charged the batter for 1 day and it never charged all the way to 100% on my Battery charger. I knew this was strange.

So I bought a new battery installed it and the car is fine :thumb:

Thanks for all the DSM member help :thumb:
