low oil pressure

I was driving and lost oil pressure come to find out the drain plug fell out. i was idleing at a light when this happened. and i shut off the car started it really quick got going and shut it off and coasted to the next street. my gauge use to read 20# at idle and now it is only about 10.i am just wondering what happened and what would cure it is it the engine or something else your input would be greatful.

A plain-bearing motor will run about thirty turns without oil before there's bearing damage.

You'll be hearing a rod knock in about two weeks.

You just can't tell from outside. There's likely serious bearing and journal scuffing. If it will kill the motor, or how soon, just can't be second-guessed. You would most likely develop rod-knock before things fail, but if you do, you'll have to rebuild at that point.

You may luck-out and get away with it, too.

I lost a cap one day and lost pretty much all of my oil, I had the same oil light problem and low oil pressure. This was about 6 months ago though, no rod knock or anything. I think I got lucky. I'm not sure what happened to my cap but I backed into a space and saw smoke under the hood, first thing I checked was the Water Temp but it looked fine, I popped the hood and everything was covered in oil. Not fun. but I've had the low oil pressure problem since.
 
my turbo is shot but i havn't driven it that much since it happened so maybe i might get lucky i hope and i will have to get is another turbo but I was planning on getting another one anyways thanks for your help :thumb:
 
having that low of oil pressure when i get a new turbo will it still oil it since it is such a big drop or under boost will it burn this one up to i am just wondering I don't want to buy a turbo and have it take a crap on me if you could let me know that would be great
 
when i replace the bearings will the pressure go back or will i still have that low of oil pressure and also what about the turbo will it be ruined again if the oil pressure stays low
