oil light??

yesterday i took my 96 GST on a long ass drive from my home in Flintstone MD to WVU ..... it is pretty much a all up hill drive from where i live . Well this is what happened .... the drive up there could not have went any better ....car ran fine ..... however once i got there and was in some traffic going from stop light to stop light ..... and when my car came to a complete rest @ idle the oil light can on very fantly ..meaning that it flickered.....however once i gave the engine the slightest throttle the light would go away completly until it came to idle again.


My guess is that the engine was so hot that @ low idle the oil pressure is very low .... threrefore the ecu thought that not enough oil was flowing through the engine .


Let the car sit for 10 min ..... checked the oil .... level was right were it is supposed to be ..... let the car sit another 2 hours ....... started it up .... no oil light for the rest of the way home .....

any ideas what may have caused this freak occurance ???????

It probably happened because it's a DSM. :laugh:
I wouldn't worry about it until it happens more frequently.

The ECU neither knows nor cares how much oil is in or flowing through the engine. There's no feedback from the oiling system to the ECU. It's a simple pressure switch on the oil filter housing, and yours is probably tired. What was your oil PRESSURE gauge doing during all this? Was it normally zeroed at idle, and above the hashmark at 1500 RPM?

Just replace your light sender. It's the smaller (and cheaper) of the two.
