I have a smoking problem and it has nothing to do with cigarettes. My car (99gst with 31k miles on) smokes like crazy while idle. Now it only smokes when im either idling or just getting going. It has a nice blueish tint to it and it loves to just pour out. Long periods of idle (like going through the drive though at mcdonalds) is horrilbe, i almost get embarressed.

Now everyone that i have talked to said the turbo was bad (this is what i thought so i bought a new big16g) but that wasnt it. Or bad rings. Now i dont know much about engine internals but i do know that a car with only 31k miles should not have bad rings. Now in my search for a fix i came across bad valve seal. Now im thinking it this could be the problem but again the mileage of the car is so low. So what does everyone think??? I hate seeing so much smoke and i just want to know what i need to fix. Thanks in advances!!!

Any insight would be appreciated on my smoking problem.

that sucks man, mine did it and it was the turbo, i was at 32k miles on a 98 gsx. i guess if you have eliminated turbo and rings the valve seals are the next most likely culprit.. maybe just doublecheck your new turbo for shaft play anyway? let us know what happens

Well since i have owned the car (im the forth owner) it has never over heated. The third owner never drove the car, he only put about 200 miles on it. I really dont drive the car hard at all. My guess is the valve stem seal, but everything i have heard is that you have to pull the head off completely. Is that true? Thanks guys!
