All right. My father and I rebuilt my engine. Due to a knock. It needed a new crankshaft and a rod, and some other misc. stuff. N e way. We rebuilt it, put it back in. And it started right up and purrs like a kitten. We turned on the a/c and it began to smoke like crazy. Never seen n e thing like it. Its like someone stuck a fog machine in my exhaust. We took of the head cuz there was coolant on top of the pistons. We thought leaky headgasket. Well we had the head checked and they said it was straight. We put a new HG on and put the car back together. It does the same thing. Even with the a.c off. What the hell is going on? Someone please help. Do we have a line crossed somewhere or what? thnk in advance. Andrew

When you had your block machined (please tell me you did), did they surface the deck of the block? The deck could be warped.

I've also seen an engine with a hairline crack on the cylinder wall.

When you pulled the head off the second time, did you look at the intake valves? notice any black gue on there? If so, you somehow got oil through your intake plumming. If not, your most likely burning coolant. Maybe you screwed up somewhere on the turbo lines? keep the car on and see if the smoke goes down a little after a while, If not check the coolant level to see If its collant your loosing. Also check the oil, see if thats what your burning.

is it possible that my turbo is bad??? I took of the inlet tube and there was oil inside it as well as some on the inside of the turbo inlet. Where else should i check? Should i check to see if i have oil in my SMIC and also the tube that goes from the bottom of the turbo to the SMIC?

How much oil is a little....if its in the actual liquid form, then theres your prob. If its just a little greasy, thats normal. Take off the SMIC and throw some gasoline in there....flush it out over and over untill the gas comes out clear. You may have added too much oil and as a result it went through your crankcase breather to your intake and eventually your motor. There may also be a problem with your turbo, but if there wasnt a problem before the motor rebuild, i highly doubt theres one now.

I hate to say it, but if you had a knock, and you didn't machine your block/bottom end, it will come back soon.

i dont see how thats possible becuz the haynes or chilton book says add 5 quarts of oil well we added 4 and 1/2 and it was at the full mark so...i wouldn't think it'd be that and also we dont know how good the turbo was becuz we just bought it and drove it home basically. We hadnt driven it much. I dont have a boost gauge and the turbo couldve been boosting just a lil bit but not a whole lot. And it may be close to death. As to machining the block. I was told it was fine by a local shop. Hes very good. One of the journals on my crank was all messed up and he said that the block should be fine throw in the new crank and your ready to go. Idk i guess we'll see. :thumbdown.
