This is tensioner with full tension and since i can't read a ruler, i need someone to tell me if the distance (between the tensioner and the automatic tensioner body) is between 5/32 and 3/16-inch(3.8 to 4.5). Somebody tell me what it is. I was looking at this picture in the manual, and mine doesn't look the same distance at all..

If your having problems reading a ruler, you should seriously reconsider your career as a mechanic. OMG

I was actually going to take pitty on you and try to explain how to read a fractional ruler but I just couldn't do it.

Metric rulers are easier to read. The more I work on my DSM the more I appreciate the simplicity of the metric system. I don't think I'd ever have really grasped and remembered anything about fractions if I didn't have to use the crap to meaure stuff and figure out if a 1/8" socket is bigger or smaller than a 3/16" socket.

Of course, I could be misinterpreting your lack of ability to read the ruler, and it might have nothing to do with that.

me and swing spoke over the phone!

Its all owned now.

And for mechanics... I'm going to have to side with omfg, the American Standard. 1 pry bar, and your set everything dismantles perfect.

How many of you guys have worked on late model american vehicles to notice how simple the design is?

I mean who ever designed the 'Timing Belt' ? Put a damn Chain in there and replace it 500,000 miles later.. jeez.

Metric system? Cars? BAH i say.
Metric system? Except Cars? ownt

Yesh, that's right........... :talon:

prolly cause a timing chain would snap at the higher rpm's that us tuners run at.
and its heavier and would add heavier rotational mass.

Same car, Same tensioner, Same result. I did that same job and my tensioner seemed to be overly tight when I pulled the pin to release the piston in the tensioner. I just left it that tight cause I had already had the damn t-belt slip once and bend up my valves. I wasnt about to let it happen again. Ive put over 6000 miles on the car since then and no problems. I'll let you know if my t-belt breaks because of overtension.
