Okay guys help me out. I did my head gasket and everythign went fine but then my bolt that holds my tensioner pulley on my timing belt broke so i threw my belt. So i fixed it and set the timing. Started it up and it sounded like shit, so I figure the timing is off so I look. Nope it was perfect but I did it again, and still sounded terrible so everybody is telling me its my vavles and they are bent. What do you guys think is it my valves or is my engine toast. And if it is my valves what do I need can I just buy the stainless steel valves and interchange them or do I need springs retainers and all. I have no money for this so please help. I am hoping its just my valves and I can buy new vlaves and interchange them while still using all the old springs and retainers.

Yeah you most likely bent some valves, but to be sure, do a compression check. It should be pretty damn low, or none at all, if you bent valves (with bent valves I've seen compression ranging from 0 PSi all the way up to 60PSi). I doubt anything else is toast other then in the head, but you never know.

Now, I'm not sure what other parts you would need, probably only whats damaged, but it might be one of those "since your ripping the head off anyway, you might as well replace..." type of things. Sorry I really don't have much engine building knowledge/experience. Good luck though!

The only other thing it could have possibly damaged would be the valve guides. When you get the head off take it to a machine shop and have them do the work. They will check the head for cracks and tell you if you have cracked guides. I would have them deck the head as well before you put it back on. But like stated above do a compression check first to make sure.

About the valves I am pretty sure you are OK to run the SS (1mm oversized?) valves with the stock springs/retainters. Its when you upgrade cams that you need the stiffer titanium ones.
