I have a problem my car wont start. When i go to start it it turns over but wont start.. It is also making a clicking noise when trying. ANYTHING would help i just put 4200 in mods in the car its a 90 awd tsi 5 speed talon. Will pay if someone is close and can help me out. I was thing ecu but not sure... thanks

had same prob and my fix was the ecu.but frist check to see if u got spark at the plugs if u do then make sure ur fuel pump works it may not from time to time like mine did cause ecu.but it also may be coil pack.check all that.sounds like to me ecu whent if u cant find anyprobs with all that pull ecu out to see if the caps leaked.

The caps in the 1g's sometimes just go bad (start leaking) over time and when they do, anything can happen (or not happen when it should). But you can search the forum for things other people have seen when they go bad.

But like skinnyt said check everything else first: spark on all cyls, fuel in all cyls, TB, wires and hoses not connected, etc. The ECU is pricey and can't be tested (only looked at for leaky caps or swapped with another). So check everything else first or you might learn a hard lesson shelling out $500-$1200 for an ECU when just a wire fell off.

That noise you mention - could it be electrical arcing? Try to locate it. If under the hood, try locating it by watching in the dark around plug wires and coils.

I looked at the pic with the ecu showing where the caps are they look fine in my ecu. So i gues ill just have to buy another and try that. everytihng else is brand new i just built the car fresh everything. Sometimes you will be sitting there and it clicks really fast then the check engine come on and you can start it real fast but as soon as the check engine light goes out it shuts off.. Is there anyone in PA with a 90 that wants to come try there ecu you in my car. Ill pay cash. thanks for all the info so far

well i got another ecu and that was not it. When i first get in the car it will start but somethings makeing the ecu warm up and not work. I checked relays and the altnator relay was very hot.. Any ideas now????? I checked for draws and found one and fixed it but wasent what was causing it nto to start. :barf:

Sounds like you may still have a short. Try pulling out the alternator relay and see how it starts (asuming battery has been charged). If starting is now good, the alternator or it's relay is bad.

well i tried for 9 hours today to get it to start and found a few things. First i messed with the altenator and relays and fues's adn nothing. Then i found a ground with that was screwed into the body of the car right behind the drivers side headlight that was lose. I was messing with it then all of a sudden i herd this really fast clicking almost sounded like a meachine gun or pop corn poping. I thought maybe it was the injectors so i unhooked them and it still did it. So i unhooked the wire i was talking about and it still did it. So i hooked up the injectors and jumped in the car and it sarted a ran fine. Then i tryed to find a good ground for the wire and it shut off. The noise sounds liek its coming from the Throttle body. Is there anything on it that would casue a car to do this. I really need help here. This is the carzyest thing ever.. thanks

Make sure your ground wires from engine to body (rear of engine), battery (-) to body, and battery (-) to engine block (big one) are all present, in good condition, no corrosion, and tight. Remove clean, inspect and reconnect each one. Here is a link that shows extreme overkill with grounding and you don't normally have to do all that or use that thick of wiring (unless your $4200 of mods draws a lot of electrical power - then do it for sure), but it does show where all the grounds should go. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75889

Take a look at this site and click "ECM Tech Info". They repair ECU's for dealerships and claim the 1g's have not only capacitor problems in them but also overheating problems that can be misdiagnosed as battery, distributor, ISC motor, TPS switch, injectors & intake cam sensor. They also claim they will test your ECU for free if you pay postage.

ok afc goes bad causing it to mess up mpi relay or mpi fues which controls the cars spark if fuse bad no spark which would cause it to die the cel can only be controlled by the ecu so if the cel wont come on there os a pobllem with the ecu ecu is casuing the mpi to click of which kills the spark to the motor or feul also wire could be arching some where causeing the mpi fuse to blow or short ok this sound about right???

and hell with spelling and gramer!!!!! you dont like it dont read it!!! :thumb:
