Zero Boost.Disconnected wastegate and nothing either.

From what i was reading on here,if you arent getting boost you should disconnect the wastegate and see if it gives you at least a few pounds "9lbs"? I completely disconnected the wastegate and the flapper is very smooth.The wastegate rod i can pull out from the wastegate actuator on with vice grips with some pressure applied.Seems to have good tension and everything.But going driving with the wastegate disconnected where the rod meets the flapper should have given me boost right? My next door neighbor " american car enthusiast" says i need my manual boost controller running from the wastegate teed off with the top of the turbo "j-pipe with the nipple" But i have a dejontool Lower ic pipe and that doesnt have a nipple on it,however the diagrams i was looking at say to just go from wastegate tee'd off to the "BOV to Intake line" Thus NOT using that nipple thats normally on the top pipe of a 16g. I ran with the MBC all the way open and all the way closed and got 2lbs of boost at one point.So i thought wastegate problem and disconnected that,No boost at all.So where do i go from here? I dont have any leaks "maybe i need to check again" but should i have needed to wire that flapper open and go drive it? I dont know what to do from here.Any thoughts on this?

disconnecting the rod, from the flapper gives you 0 boost.

unhooking the vac line from the actuator, and capping it off, gives you infinate boost

Okay so if i cap off the wastegate with the infinite boost.Then i should be able to see if its boosting just by slightly revving the engine.right? i shouldnt blow anything by just doing that? And if the turbo IS spoinning freely,the only other thing it could be is an intake or IC pipe leak somewhere? This is driving me nuts ,please help.

Okay i put back together the wastegate arm and went for a drive barely on the gas with the wastegate fully capped off. Still no boost so i stomped on the gas WOT with my fingers crossed and with the wastegate capped off at WOT i am getting 5 lbs of boost and boost doesnt seem to kick in till the higher RPM's and seems stuttered like the air flow is choppy or something. Is this getting me narrowed down to what it could be.Your help is greatly appreciated.

We're afraid that what you have there is a former turbocharger.

Try spinning the compressor side of the turbo by hand. If it stops quickly then you're bearings are toast... But I'd have to say I agree, dead turbo...

I really hope it isnt blown.I havent done anything with it.Its a brand new Evo3 turbo that spins freely with no shaftplay.Im out of ideas too. Im thinking of driving to to a dsmshop somewhere and staying in a hotel until they get it fixed.Im So done with this 6bolt .I spent the whole summer on this and get nothing in return but a chattering act2600 and NO boost.YAY

Now that I think about it more, try dropping your exhaust off the car and give it a run... Maybe the exhaust is clogged and causing far too much back pressure? But it really sounds like a turbo related problem.

Sounds like you're at the hate part of the love/hate relationship... Once that badboy spins up to 16-20 psi you'll be at the love part again, don't worry!

I will definately unhook the exhaust and see. Would a intake leak or a vacume leak cause this? I havent done a vacume test OR a intake leak test.Would that cause partial boost like that only in higher RPM's? I know when i had the exhaust manifold at the machine shop ,they had a rag stuffed in the bottom part that goes to the turbo.BUT im 99.9 percect sure i pulled it out. Im sure that would cause this problem but i am dreading pulling that whole turbo out again.Can i pull the exhaust manifold off without pulling oil and coolant lines off the turbo etc just pull the exhaust manifold by itself.Is that possible? I need to know if a vacuum or intake leak could cause this though.I will probably look for leaks tonight and pull the exhaust tonight and try to run without it. My last resort is pulling this manifold.

Well a rag in the manifold would almost certainly get burned, and get some material wrapped up around the turbine wheel... So yea, that would kill it fast. If that's what happened I'm sorry for ya!

A intake leak could cause this, but we'd be talking a MAJOR leak... The tester is cheap, only about 8 bucks to make...

Oh, and it's possible to pull just the manifold, but only if they changed the bolts??

-Remove the intake and make sure the impeller is spinning freely.

- Remove the O2 housing and make sure the the flapper disc hasn't failed and broken off.

Okay i removed the intake and the turbo spins very smooth with no shaftplay.I didnt get to do an IC leak test yet but my "port P" on my intake manifold where it goes on the nipple of the MPS was off.So i put it back on better where it wont come off and tightened all my IC piping and everything.The car was idling better off the bat so i thought i had probably fixed teh problem.Well i went for a drive and floor it.I barely get boost until 5,000 rpm then it hits at 14 psi all the sudden.This is with the wastegate capped off so i should be boosting infinite.So i guess tommorrow i will do the intake leak test and take off the manifold to see if there is a rag in there.The wastegate and flapper are all in tact.So my ONLY options left are the :
*Intake IC piping leak test at the turbo inlet.
* Manifold rag stuck in there.
* Take off the exhaust and run without.
* Vacuum leak test?
If the vacuum is at the stock level could there still be a leak when its boosting?

** Anything else i forgot ??? Thank you guys for the help.

The car is timed perfect and idles great right now.No floating idle.Rev's nicely.Fixed clutch engagement, Idles at factory specs.Getting on the gas is smooth until about 5k then it studders for a split second before nailing 14psi at 5k.But very little boost before 5k.Im thinking its a leak somewhere that i should be able to find with the boost leak tester hooked up pumped with 20 psi. Although i swear everything is tight.I will try and find out today.

I don't think it's the rags either. The exhaust gas will turn that rag to hot ash in a matter of seconds!!!

Even if there was a rag in the i/c pipes, it would not just boost to 14 psi at 5k rpm.

Are you using a fmic or the side mount?

Thats good to know its probably not rags. I have done stupid mistakes with this 6bolt so i didnt want to leave that out of the equation.Would a IC or intake leak test present these problems? A IC leak test/boost test is something totally different from a vacuum test right? Should i test the vacuum or just see how much the vac is pulling.I mean isnt there a pressure test for vacuum or something? Or just go off boost guage to see how much vac and if its within tolerance.Shoudnt it be somewhere between 14-20 or something around there? Thanks again for the help.I will fix this problem yet.
