Hey guys, whenever i back up and hit the brakes (ESPECIALLU WHEN IT IS HUMID/WET) the car makes a loud GROANNN (its embarassing cause it makes me feel like my car is a POS) I just had all 4 brakes pads replaced and it still does it. Brought to a mechanic and he said its fine. Whats causing this noise?

My car does it too! I always wondered what it was. It makes a loud creaking noise, like someones opening a really old door, I hate it. It only does it if my cars been off for a while. Like when I go to work in the morning its so loud. I just got all of my brakes fixed and everything rodors and all. And of course when my I want my mechanic friend to hear the sound, it doesn't do it. Oi! Someone help us!

Have you tried some anti squeal. Theres a gel you can put on the back of pads to help reduce squeal. It costs under 10.00 and normally used when you have pads resting on the rotors causing noise. This might add enough cusion between the pads and calipers to at least reduce the amount of noise if not eliminate it. Are you using semi metallic brakes?

Hey when i reverse at a slow speed, ex. driveway. I hear a little grinding noise, this just happens for a bit, but it sounds like a creaking noise. any ideas

Yeah I think most cars make that noise, something about the brakes lining up or wearing in after being off for a while. My moms pimpin Ford Escort Wagon does it too.

the noise isnt going away! Im embarassed to go in reverse cause it makes the car look like a POS! Its really loud! So loud that when i was backing out of the driveway it woke her up!! I don't want to grease the brakes but im running out of options!

Mine does it all the time and If im in a public place I feel so dumb, like everyones watching me. My car look fine on the outside but they prolly think its crap on the inside. And now when I accelerate in the morning it makes the same noise as the brakes do but its in my muffler.

mine makes a creak too , I think it might be the cv shaft gonig or maybe a motor or tranny mount that is loose or not aligned. I if it seems like it is normal, I might not care anymore.

Mine started doing that once i replaced my pads.. i went to my mechanic, he put on some of that stop squel stuff, its like this pinkish colour and the noise went away.. or you can goto an auto store and get new brackets, the little metal things that the brake pad sits in. Maybe you don't have any? cus that will cause serious vibrations. The reason it does that is.. ur tires go forward 99% of the time, so ur brakes are set in.. but when u go reverse, its working against that, which is making the caliper shift the other way which causes vibration which causes that noise.. for example.. if you drive reverse 99% of the time, and when ud rive forward it will do that. =P .. but its nothing big, its just simple vibrations.. its really being lazy cus you didn't get the stop squel stuff before =D hehehehe.. good luck!

This same thing happened to my dsm i repleced the cv joints and it went away ! also are your rotors warped or not ??? thats my 2 cents hope it helps !!

I'll have to ask the mechanic about the anti squeel stuff thanks. That pictures awesome! I have a bird just like that!

my 91 laser does it too. except ever since i replaced the ebrake lines. Everything works 100%, so o well. just something to get used to for now. ill look into cv joints at a later time...

Dudes,

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that 90% of you that have this problem have rear disc brakes. It's your shims. Go to a mitsu dealer, and ask for a rear disc shim kit. It costs $4.00 If you get genuine Mistu pads and Mitsu shim kits, you shouldn't need any anti squeal compound. Cheap pads and no shims are the worst combination for this noise. This annoyed me for a while on my '94 eclipse until I figured this out.

Installing a shim kit is probably the easiest job in the world. All you do is snap the shims onto the pads before you put the pads in the caliper bracket. I would recommend that you go with either Mitsu pads or something better. Do NOT put anything Pep Boys sells on your car. As I stated before, if you buy Mitsu pads and shims, putting anti-squeal between the shim and caliper or pad and caliper on the piston side isn't necessary. If you can take your wheel off of your car, you can install a shim kit.

I just recently replaced the rear pads on my tsi and it still does it every once in a while. I've heard a lot of dsm's that do it just seems to be a common problem.

its so annoying though. I am SO EMBARRASED to brake in reverse that sometimes i just put my car in neutral and push it backwards!!!!! ITS THAT DAMN BAD!!!!!!!!!!!
