i know its the fast idle air valve to let more air in when the engine coolant and therfore engine is cold. but here is my question: does the fiav control the isc or is it a seperate air source? my isc is crappy and slow if its even working... and i have one hell of a time tryin to start cold and keep it idling without keepin my foot on the gas. is my fiav messed up or is it my buddy the isc's fault? if its the fiav can i adjust it or check it? its sealed right?

hhmmm still not sure LOL. share the same inlet? ttwo outlets? so sepperate then? oh shit i guess my fiav or thermostat is messed. the incar gauge works fine and it points straight up when its warm. ahhhhh man

The thermostat most likely has nothing to do with it. When it dies it'll either make your car never quite warm up, or overheat depending on if it freezes open or closed.

I'd guess of those two it's your FIAV. But more likely (unless a previous owner blocked off your FIAV already) it's more like a o2 sensor that has to heat up and is failing... Or something along those lines. I've never really heard of a FIAV going bad... Maybe your throttle body door is slightly stuck??

finally! i finally got my new motherboard and my computer running again........ anyways my problem isnt really with the high idle. i never have a cold warm up. the car idles at like 500 and almost always dies if i rev it and just let off. my isc is bad but once the cars warm itll idle at 800 or so usually or 1k-1.2k if the isc is messed. (sometimes theres an open circuit in the motor and sometimes its 70ohms on the one set). so maybe it is blocked then? why in the world would you block it off in minnesota? the kid i bought it from said he drove it in the winter too. thanks for any and all input on the fiav tho.

no i got coolant lines. and i grounded out the isc or w/e to adjust idle and then unplugged the isc so it couldnt move from its 'neutral' position and then adjusted my idle (while the car was warm!, of course) then waited overnight......................... go to start my piece, and big surprise around 700 idle and very poor. died as soon as i turned the lights on and gave it a bit of gas. and since i keep getting outbid on throttle bodies on ebay and theres not jack shit around here o well.

y yes i do ground it out with the under hood and diagnostic port. will unplugging it cause damage? I KNOW its bad 30 on 12 like 50 or open on 23 and 30 on 45 and like 70 on 56.... and i need a new fiav or can i clean it?

I'm on my third FAIV.. the plastic barb fractured on my previous two. Never hurt my cold starts.. but was a boost leak. Check out Partznet.com for a replacement.

BTW.. the ISC also tends to crud up and cause Idle problems. Take it off and hose it out with carb cleaner.
