Oil pressure?

When my car is ideling i have little to no oil pressure
is this normal?

if i rev the car or start to drive off oil pressure rises and stays at about the middle of the gauge.

i am also getting a noise that sounds like valves clanging from no oil on the left side

i put some seafoam in the car today and will see from there

We need some actual numbers from a good gauge. The one in the dash from the factory is crap. It's unusual to have oil pressure issues on the 4G63 but it could happen.

until my sending unit pooped out on me it would be very low at idle, and would raise as id drive. higher rpms= higher oil presure. i would worry if oil pressuse drops that low when driving. minedi that and it was the oilpan gasket and valve cover gasket that blew.

I had the same question last fall when I bought my TSI. Asked around, and looks like the majority of us have the same problem with the factory guage. Slowly drops after pulling up to a light, goes up right away when accelerating. Get a new guage and put it in a pod some where, it will atleast make you feel better.

That's quite possibly your harmonic balancer singing its farewell curtain call. Collapsed lifters from insufficient oil sounds like a Singer sewing machine going through flattened beer cans.

in the cars manual it even says at idle it will be low and should be about the second mark over once u hit 3k rpm. i was worried too

Just thought I'd ask a quick question about my oil pressure. I've noticed since a couple days ago ( I believe it was after I fixed my radiator temp sensor connector ) that my oil pressure isn't in the middle like it usually was. It's at about 60% during normal driving (I shift at about 4000, but since I'm still getting used to manual, sometimes I'll accidently rev it a bit higher, but nothing over 5,000 that I remember) Is this my connector on the filter housing that could use a good cleaning? Oh, and if it matters, I'm using Mobil 1 10w-30 synthetic.

Thanks for any help, I just want this car to be at 100%.
