well a freind pointed out thatwhen i shift at hi rpms (7k) i shoot out some smoke. my tail pipe has some black residue on it. were both thinking un-burnt fuel. car runs fine with the exception of a blown header (not head) gasket, caused from header bolts backing out every 2 days a bit. so i got some exhaust pop. im just wondering if our assuptions are right. the car dont smoke at all, its just a lil bit of smoke if i rev high. another possibility is because of my gutted cat. since i didnt have it before but i havent really checked lately.

anyone else shoot out a bit of smoke when their revs shoot up?

I would just say it's unburnt fuel - at high RPM's under boost you're gonna blow a little out. Especially if you have a gutted or no cat - it won't get burned up so just comes out. If it's only at the very high RPMs under boost don't worry about it. as far as your manifold bolts backing out i'd suggest a new set of studs, washers, and copper nuts - they'll never fall off again.

well since your NON-TURBO then i would say reving that thing past 7 is awful high for that motor , but my friends civic did the same, his needed to be RE-RINGED. so he just got a new bottom end. how many miles on ur motor?

i rev to 7k max. if it was my rings id knotice a power drop right? also its only been since i gutted my cat and removed my CAI extension. i am having a hard time keeping my filter on, it got mangled under my car, so im hoping i didnt fck up my mas. car is pulling strong as ever, just waiting for t-belt and turbo cams. im at 119k miles.
