i have a 91 talon tsi.
the car has been running fine until now. when i drive the car it seems to be ok. but when i use the clutch to put the car into neutral and let the rpm's fall, they fall really low. like 400 to 300 rpm's. the car will sometimes go back up to 800 or just stall while i am driving.
i also recently did a tune up. new ngk plugs, wires, battery, fuel filter, injectors.
then yesterday i came across a problem when we were puting the battery back in. we accidently sparked the battery and i have a new problem. now when i put the key into the "on" position i get nothing. no power locks, no power windows, no power seatbelts, the radio wont even turn on. when i start the car it all works but as soon as the car is turned off nothing works again. i.e. power atena wont go down, seat belts dont go forward. its weird. the beeping in the car also sounds distorted.
any help will be great i dont know where to start on this one. I WILL PAY THE PERSON THAT GIVES ME A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM!

check the alternator? when the rpms were falling did you ever get the battery light? along with some other lights, thats a sure sign of a bad alternator.
get it tested.

check ur batt and all fuses if not them probably ur alt

the alternator has been replaced a short time before i bought the car. could it go bad after a year or so. i have checked all fuse box's all seems in check. dont know if a relay or something was blown?

when the rpms got low either the oil light came on or all the dash lights came on.

Id say Either GOD hates you Or your alternator IS bad.................. Get a new Alternator! or get yours checked...........I have a new one for a 92 NT laser im not sure if theyre compatable though...........GL

It does sound like the alternator. Take it over to your local autozone and they will test it for free. Do you know if the alternator was rebuilt or new when they replaced it? Rebuilt alternators often fail, and it takes 2 or 3 before you get a good one. When shopping for a new alternator, try to find one with a lifetime guarantee (i *think* autozone sells that, but make sure), that way if you get a bad one, its free to replace it (just a bi*** to rip it out 3 times). If you have not had you ECU recapped it is a pretty good chance that is what it is. If not then I would imagine that it may be the Idle air control valve, AKA the stepping motor as this one mitsu tech calls it. I am leaning more to the ECU that symptoms you are describing sounds like it.

the idle air controller where is that? and how hard is it to replace? i think i have multiple problems right now. the car runs good when driving but during idle you hear it miss every now and then. i am going to go have the alt tested, i pulled out my volt meter and i couldnt get a reading. anyone know where i can pick up an ECU if needed for a far price?

If the car stalls whenever you put it in neutral, you might have the following problem. After disconnecting the battery for any reason, when you hook it back up and turn the car on, you have to let it idle for several minutes before touching the gas. This lets the computer set the idle.
