As of this moment I'm not sure if I have the wrong ecu in my car. My car sat so long that the old ecu was screwed, so when I was in Puerto Rico visiting my gf my dad took my car and some local shop and they replaced the ecu and said that that was the only problem. My problem is this: i go to start the car and nothing. I jump it and it doesn't trun over, but the engine temp gauge goes all the way to hot and the fans come on. Sounds like an ecu problem to me. Don't 90's have to have their own special ecu or it won't work. This ecu that's in there has been there for a couple of weeks, but only has about 30 minutes of run time on it. How can I tell if it's the right ecu or not by looking at it when I get it out, or should I look elsewhere. I couldn't find any blown fuses or anything. Please help!!

90's do have a different ECU. As far as your problems I cannot say but if its not a 90 ECU I would get it outta there and find the right one anyway.

Ok, well... I'm not sure if your car would start or not, but i'm pretty sure that you would hear the starter click. http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ecu-harness-1G.html <-- Shown here, the difference in the 90 vs 91-94 ecu's is the pinouts for the idle control. If you don't care about hacking up that harness, i say go ahead and try switching the wires to see if it will work. If this isnt' it, there is a ground wire on your starter that can come loose which might be it.

I'm running a 92 ECU in my 90. I had to swap two pins (6 and 14 maybe?) didn't take me to long at all, and works fine. The link that LAZPNO provided will walk you right though it. Let us know if that fixes the problem, I think that if that isn't a 90 ECU, it def. won't work right.

I'm going to check that stuff this afternoon and get back to you guys. About the starter ground. It wouldn't turn over if that were the problem, but would that cause the temp gauge to skyrocket and the fans to come on?
