everett,
Washington
ok so here's the deal. i finally got my 96 gsx up and running today ( replaced engine with one from japan but swapped everything over from old engine (pumps, manifolds, turbo, water pipe etc).
today was my first time running it and i must say i fell in love!
i did however encounter a problem - i was in 5th doing 100-110 and it felt like i hit a governer or something (sudden loss of power) and i gradually slow down into the gas station because i had to get gas. i pull out and rev it up to about 4k and notice that there is no turbo power. i quickly turn back into the same gas station and notice that my car has left a huge cloud of white smoke.
i drove it home shifting at 2k (above 2500 white smoke comes out the back) and must say i am very sad and very pissed. it has taken me months to get this car running (time constraints ) and then i go and blow up the turbo (i think)
as it sits now, the stock boost gauge goes up to about 3/8 when it should be in spooling range but there is NO power coming from the turbo whatsoever and again... the white smoke.
i know little about turbo's so any help would be much appreciated.
is this a turbo issue or a wastegate issue? or something else i'm missing altogether?
if this is a turbo issue what are my options for replacement? i would love to hook up a custom 3 inch all the way exhaust to a bigger turbo if i could, but i don't have much cash to spend so my options are somewhat limited - however i do appreciate ANY suggestions in this dept.
thank you guys so much in advance!
