How to test CAS, Coilpack, Power Transistor?

Can anyone tell me how to test these things? I just got my car back together after a year of not having it, and it won't start because of no spark. All these things were outside while my car was down, and probably got soaking wet, and covered in snow because I live 2 hours away from where my car is, and the tarp got blown off this stuff.

So if you guys could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated. :thumb:

I had the same problem. My car was out for around 17 months, and I left my entire motor, parted out, outside under a tarp during the winter. Everything got soaked. Surprisingly, my CAS still works (I have a JDM motor installed in it now, with some parts from my old motor that bit the dust). My coil was already shot before-hand, so I just ended up replacing it. As well as the power transistor.

What I did to test for spark is I took a plast/rubber handled screwdriver, and popped off one of the spark plugges. I slid the metal shaft in to the coil, and then had someone turn the key. I watched for spark. I did so on all four. As well, I tested the plugs as well the same way, just to be sure.

To test the Power Transistor I simply unplugged, and plugged it back in; fiddling with it while someone turned over the motor. With my old unit, I held a horrible idle. With the new one, my idle steadied out quite a lot.

There are probably better ways to test those things, but this's how I did it. Though, I didn't test my CAS. I just bolted it in and it worked fine.

Ok, I already tested it with the screw driver, and using th spark plugs. Neither made spark, I even tried it on different parts of the body to make sure it wasn't because of good ground.

I'm just trying to find out how to test these other things to see if they are working.

I also found something else that might be my problem, its called a noise filter that is part of the ignition system, its bolted to the back of your engine on the brace that helps hold the intake manifold. Its not plugged in, and I can't seem to find the plug in for it. I will just mess with it later and see if I can find the plug in for that, that might be myonly problem.

to test the CAS, plug it in, but hold it in your hand instead of having it plugged into the Intake cam, turn the key to IGNITION ON BUT DON'T START IT, and spin the wheel. If you hear the injectors/spark plugs clicking, then it works.

There is a capacitor that is integral to ignition operation. I'm not sure where physically it is on a 1g but it always connects (and is close) to the coil primaries on all vehicles. It must be there for proper spark. There also are other noise filter capacitors around which sometimes are mistaken for this one - the one you mention might be the ignition one so definately find where it connects to as it may just be your problem (and probably replace it too as it has been under severe wet & cold weather conditions which usually do them in). The capacitor rapidly discharges energy (current) from the coil primary (due to a collapsing magnetic field) when the power transistor fires (turns off) which induces the high secondary coil voltage (for the spark plugs) . Without it, you may get weak or no spark at all. It also provides waveform dampening which is why it is sometimes refered to as a noise filter.
