Dash light dont work at all and every time i replace the tail fuse, it keeps blowing, it will stay good for a little bit ... then blow out again. Headlights work great, and the tail lights work when the fuse isnt blown, but the dash lights WONT light at all... any hep would be greatly appreciated, if someone knows the schematic or something that would really help to, I need this car back on the road. Thanks in advance ...

You might have to trace wires. It's probably a short between the two things that have gone out. If the correct amp fuses are in place and they keep popping, you'll want to keep them out until you track down the problem. Likewise you will not want to put in higher-rated fuses. Otherwise wires will get hot and start melting.

if you're going at it yourself, I have a couple ideas. If your dash lights are not working, check the fuse for them (sorry I can't remember offhand if it's in the driver's footwell or under the hood). You might also get them to work by leaving the taillamp fuse out (I'd advise doing this only for testing - not for driving).

An auto electrician might save you some time and money, and maybe get that ticket dismissed depending on if it was a fix-it ticket or a safety violation ticket. Just tell them what is happening and get a quote in writing before they touch it.

ive been tracing wires all day ... and before i saw your message i did pull a stupid and put a 30 amp fuse in there because i ran out of 10s, and smoked the dimmer switch, but lucky for me i have 3 dsms and a spare dimmer switch to test with... i dont know where else to look i wish i knew the schematics of that tail fuse and everything on it ... that would help a TON! If anyone else can think of anything please let me know!!

Thanx for the info i really do apprecaite it

Try unhooking your cd player and see if it still happens. I had the same problem and it turned out to be one of the cd player wires somehow was comming in contact with metal and blowing the fuse. Just happened out of nowhere, and the cd player had been installed and left alone for a year and a half before it happened.

"if someone knows the schematic "
Well I've got the schematics for a 99 Eclipse, you'd think yours can't be too different. You've obviously got a short somewhere in that circuit. The +12 volts goes through the taillight relay, then the fuse (15A), and then goes to many things, the dash lights being one of them (the dimmer is between the dash lights and ground). The other things it goes to (in my schematics) are cruise control, fog lights, automatic tranny, taillights, position lights, side marker lights, license plate light.

I would suggest replacing the fuse with a 12 volt light bulb. If you have a short it should light when you turn on your taillights. Then start disconnecting the above things (starting with the dimmer switch) until it goes out. When it does, that's the circuit the short is in. Dimmer switch, marker & position & license lights are prime suspects.

well, heres an update

i was testing all day today wiggling wires, everything i could think to do ... heres what ive got so far

The dash lights dont come on at all

The 'TAIL' fuse under the hood keeps popping and knocking out my tailights at random times

The dimmer switch gets hot before the fuse blows

I checked the bulbs to make sure a voltage spike didnt kill all my bulbs ... and they are fine .... im lost ... anything else ?????????

Thanks ... I really hope someone can help!

this happened to me when i installed my stereo. I had hooked up the ground wire of the stereo to dimmer wire of the harness (i think) and everytime i would turn on the stereo it was blowing the fuse in the engine bay. I fixed the wire and set it up all right and replaced the fuse and it was fine. It was the same thing, the tail lights and the dash lights are the same fuse (at least in the 90) . So if you recently chagned ur stereo or messed around back there, i would give it a look through.

Check it even if you haven't. Like I said in my post earlier, I hadn't messed with my stereo for a year and a half when this happened to me.

my car kept blowing the 10amp tail light fuse and the dash lights would go out the same time bla bla, long story short i got sick of replacing the constant blowing of the 10 amp fuse so i just put a 15 amp fuse in, and the car has been fine for months now
