OK well I was driving my car to work the other day and it just cut off when I was comming to a stop at the light. Then when I tried to start it, it would fake me out like it was gonna start like for a second and then it would start making like this sound like a fan is on but in my motor not anything like valves hitting pistons or anything ( I have heard valves hitting pistons on my friends car before its not pretty). I haven't checked anything on it yet like spark plugs or anything. Do you guys think I have crank-walk. I dunno but I love my car and I don't wanna get ride of it because of repairs. PLEASE HELP!!

Sounds like a timing belt to me. As for crankwalk, you know everyone talks about it but no one can describe exactly what happens when you try to run a motor that has CW'd.

I took the timming belt cover off and it is still there it looks a little beat up but still there tight and all. When I go to start it, just had a friend do it and I watched the timming belt, it keeps moving as long as you keep the key turned on to start.

Just because it is tight does'nt mean that it is'nt stripped or has'nt jumped.

Check the entire length for missing teeth.

Check the timing marks... Put the crank pulley at TDC and see if the cams line up with the deck.

ok guys I just came back from out side I took my spark plugs out and they have nothing on them. Did a compression check have no compression in any of the cylinders and my timming belt that use to be tight is not tight any more now I can slide it off if I wanted to. This sux :(
Oh yeah and I checked my oil to see if there was something that did not belong in there but it was fine.

Well I guess my sh#$ is pretty much fu@#$% so I am just going to buy a scion xb as my daily driver and start building a 6 bolt that I have sitting at home. Like I said before this sux :(

Bro, yur friend with the cobra told me wut happened when i went to BK on 28 on saturday night, this sux. I just now saw this post. To me it sounds like u may have bent yur valves which= head rebuild or new motor. I know this from experience, because i bent my valves a month ago (you already know). When i tried to start the car, it sounded like it was going to but it wouldnt, kinda like a "fake me out start" like u said. But it could be anything. Well i hope whatever it is u get fixed soon and i hope it isnt anything major. Just keep me updated.

This is why I sold my 1G and bought an MR2 Turbo.

I miss the forward G-Force of the AWD launch, but nothing beats this remark I got from a toyota tech:

Me- "Hey.. is the standard 75k timing belt change the same interval for the 3SGTE?"

Toyota Tech- "yea.. but nobody does it.. just drive it till it breaks."

Me - "WHAT THE....."

Toyota Tech-"Motor freewheels.. valves will never hit pistons, car will just die, you'll need a tow, but I've seen stock t-belts last 140,000 miles"

That blew my mind. I'm familiar with interference/freewheeling motors, but I assumed everyone changed freewheeling timingbelts anyway at 75k. When I asked the MR2 club people, 95% said... you only need to change it if/when it breaks. That's awesome.
