alright heres the deal. I have a 95 eclipse rs standard and just had transmission work done. I drove it about 1500 miles and while drivin down the highway I notice the check engine light come on and my speedometer stops working. Along with the speedometer the odometer has stopped turning. The rpm gauge is still working. So I slow down and get off the next exit to check my fluids and oil. When slowing down and pulling into a gas station. My car stalls out. And now my car seems to stall out everytime I slow down to a stop sign if the air conditioner is on. It seems to do it only once in awhile if the AC is off. The rpms just seem to dip to low and it kills out. Today I replaced the spark plugs and wires and put a new air filter in. Still stalls out and I need some advice besides get a new car. oh and when i do the fault code test with the ignition, it comes up with code 12 and 55. thanx

As for the speedo and odometer not working, check the speedo cable since you just had work done, might of come out.

i had the guy look at it and he said it was hooked up and that the gear looked fine. He said it was prolly suttin electrical..

For electronic pulsed odo/speedo's there's a sender/pulse unit on the tranny that the wire connects to. Perhaps this is problem. Or the ground strap on the tranny was not hooked up which provides the ground connection for this unit. The speedo/odo worked before the tranny work right? Then obviously they did something to make it stop working. And the ECU uses the speed signal to control the throttle for exactly the case you describe: A/C on slowing to a stop!

is this something i could take a look at myself? Would i just have to pull the battery out and look for the wire??? thanx

The speedo driven gear assembly has a connector on top of it with 3 wires: white, yellow, and black all inside a black plastic insulator sleeve. It is located as far back as you can get on the tranny down low sticking up from the rear of the tranny slightly right (passenger) side of center. It is behind the starter (just farther back) inline with the flywheel. You can see it by sighting down there from in front of the battery but unless you have long arms, you will have to pull the battery to reach it. They probably forgot to reconnect it and the connector should be close by (wires come back from the front right side of engine and are very easy to see but they are inside that black plastic sleeve). Even if you have the cable speedo I think it goes to the same place.
