90 Laser Shuts off for no reason

I went to go test drive a used 1990 (1989 of feburary it was made). The car had not been started in 8l months. (its my girlfirends grandpa so he's not bull shooting me). Anyway. It started up perfect and ideled awesome. About 40 seconds after start up the idel got wierd and it died. I started it back up and it was ok. (5 speed manny trans) I pull out of the garage in reverse and when i pushed the clutch in it dies quickly. (seems electrical) I drive it around the block and the problem seems to get worse and worse. When I was on straight aways the engine sounded powerfull and ran fine. But as soon as I hit a stop sign and stopped with the clutch in it would die. It also would die if it was in neutal. So i popped the clutch in the gears back to the guys house. I'm thinking battery? Had one last charge to start the car and it was slowing down and going bad on me? The car is the first one ever made of the class and a timing belt broke when he had it (50,000) Chystler put a brand new engine it there for him and now it has about 55,000. I am going to take $500 off whatever he wants for the car to cover the cost of a new timing belt before it breaks. Other then that the car has been locked in a garage and is the cleanest 90's car I have ever seen in my life. Lots of dust on it.

ps I was also thinking bad gas maybe??? I was thinking of going over there on Friday and putting 6 gallons of premuim in there with a new battery and seeing what happens.

i dunno dude... i kinda have the same problem but not as bad.... it shuts off like maybe 4-5 times a month when i roll to a stop sign or take a turn to slow... pretty much if i'm under 10-5 mph.... it runs fine when it's above that speed... anyone got any suggetions?

I drove it again tonight. I took the pos cable off battery and tested the battery. Its good. When you idle the car it seems to skip and miss. When I idel at 4000 the engine starves and sputters badly. When I floor the car it does great but as soon as you get to 4000 you starve the engine. Any ideas??? When shifting in all gears it does this starve thing at 4000 (almost exactly)

i would think the airfliter is clogged and needs replaced or the cat. is clogged up real bad. its happend to acouple of my familys cars, the cat clogs up or somthin happens to it so it won't let airflow threw it, and it kills the engine and it runs horrible because thers no airflow... hope this helps

Hrmmmm... My car just started this too, but I got it taken care of. Mine was the fuel pressure solenoid. Crapped out after 14 years.

Well the car is driveable. Its just hard becasue the thing bucks at 4000 in all gears. Also it starts fine but dies RIGHT away. Starts.....then cuts REALLY quick. List of possiblilies???

The fuel has also been sitting in there for awhile. Can of gum-out though the tank???

Where is the car located? I live in Joliet. Make it worth my time and I"ll go look at it for/with you. Could be so many things, it's not even funny. Plus you couldn't possibly begin to fix the thigns that MIGHt be wrong with the car sitting in the guys' driveway.

I was going to try and make an offer of about $600 to the guy early this week. Down the grape vine I heard the guy got a ton of tickets the other day for something involving where he works. He's despritly looking for money. I live just about a 1/2 hour from you. I'm located in plano/millbrook IL 60536. I have easy acsess to a lift at my nieghboors house as well. Would you make the trip for 50 bucks?

Its in the shop now. I got the car for 300 bucks. Good times. I checked out the 4000 bucking thing on my own and have found it to be the mass air sensor. When i unplug it i can run the engine up to like 8 grand. Very rich though. It still keeps turning off for no reason............... Any ideas there?
