canada,
Ok here is the deal:

My 90 tsi awd wouldent start this morning, I boosted it and it ran fine all day untill i parked it for a long period of time. When i go to start it again it wouldent start. It only runs when my car is boosted then dies after it sits for a long time. I also noticed that when im driving after i boost my battery when i depress the brake all the lights flicker. I looked under the hood and noticed that there is a small wire coming from the bottom of my alternator with a cap on the end sort of like the non spark plug end of a spark plug wire. This wire seems to have disconnected from somewhere and i dont know where it goes.
Could this be my problem? If so where do i re connect that wire?

Thanks

Something similar happen to me... after a lot of troubles I finish with my problem, changing the alternator...

When you turn your key to the "ON" position (before starting the car) those the Battery Led, turns on????... When that problems began on my car, the Led those not turns on as it is suppose to do (when the key in ON position but with the engine still turned off). My complete alternator was in short and that cause my voltage regulator and some other things to pass away!

Good luck!

That wire needs to connect to the front of the alternator, there will be a "nipple" that looks just like the top of a spark plug, hook it up there. I am not exactly sure (anyone?) what the wire is for (I don't think its a ground) but I bet that is your problem.
