Shiloh,
When I am driving with the engine at about 3k and decide to step on it, black smoke shoots out my exhaust, is this just an indication of dirty exhaust pipes/cat? or a larger problem? (btw my exhaust is the stock factory exhaust)

Black smoke is unburnt/partially burnt fuel, which is a sign of running rich. Do you have any mods? If not, maybe your O2 sensor is beat. Does the car ever bog or stutter?

except for a boost guage, no mods, and yes it does bog occasionally, is there any way to check my o2 or does that require a datalogger or what?

Yea, hook it up to a volt meter and if the values are low and don't cycle up to say, above .8 or so, you'll need a new one. A little bit of black smoke coming out the exhaust is normal with turbo DSMs, but alot means a rich condition. Check the o2
