blown turbo question

whats up guys just curious if a blown turbo will cause a noticeble decrease in power. The reason I ask is because the oil seals on my turbo have gone bad (smoke blown at idle). well a couple weekends ago I raced it and it ran real stong pulled real hard well it started burning the oil as stated above and now it dosent feel strong at all and it dosent really boost the way it use to I use to get 15psi quick and hard at about 48-100% throttle now I dont get 15psi until about 89-100% throttle what do you guys say.

Smokes at idle or when boosting? Idle usually means valve stem seals, oil in the intake pipes, this is however if the smoke coming out is blue, if white could be a HG issue, how does it run/ idle overall right now... any noticialbe fluid loss coolant and or oil.... oil smell fishy? If your car smokes esspecially while boosting then you need to worry about a blown turbo. There really isn't much of a power loss i didn't notice any when mine ate an oil seal however with a HG problem you feel a loss of power. I would say compression test it first to see where your at.

grrrrrr yea I'm starting to think maybe it's a head gasket issue. It smells like diesel. It dosent do it when Im boosting just when I come to a stop it will let out a little plume and then thats it grrrrrr. I guess I'll do a compression test and see whats up thier I hope its not the damn headgasket I dont feel like pulling the head thanks for the help man.

I did a compression test and got 130 across the board not to bad but not to good either considering from the factory its like 165. I put a cap full of oil in thier and it read 150 but didnt go any higher I've heard that if it goes up like 30psi then it's the rings it only went up like 20 what do you guys think.

Good job bro :laugh: thats wicked funny.... 20psi jump from 130 to me seems just enough to question rings others may disagree but i believe you found your problem

What is a HG problem.... his symtoms seem the same as mine....

the head isnt torqued down or the headgasket is bad then you'll burn coolant and your compression will lower in turn lowering power.

hmmm..sounds familiar. Only difference is the seals broke on my t-25..which caused oil leakage. Everytime i came to a stop, i would see smoke coming out of the hood. Luckily my mechanic hooked me up and replaced the seals..turned out the previous seals were so rusty they broke.
