OK....apparently its common and 99% of people ignore it, and I plan on turning it off with DSMlink when I get it, but for my emissions they plug in a scanner and pull codes, anything I can do to permanently get rid of this damn code......I took the negative battery cable off and the light didn't come on for almost 2 days....but thats not permanent.

Yea, I just got that code two days ago for the first time. I have a logger so I cleared it, but I was wondering why it came up in the first place. I have a MAFT, but its tuned properly and I don't think my trims are off. Could this have anything to do with a bad o2 sensor possibly?

I don't think it would have anything to do with a bad oxygen sensor....injector, restriction in fuel line, something related with fuel delivery is my guess, but its a really common code so I'm thinking there is something more to it, I'm just trying to find out everyone elses experience and what they did to get it gone

It has been suggested that this can be fixed by cleaning all the injector and ignition plugs. This is not a guaranteed fix but a can of electrical cleaner only costs a few bucks and you can clean them all in under an hour.

i got the same code and i tried changing my o2 sensor with a new one from a mitsubishi parts and dealer and after 2 days it came on again....

yeah it appears that my air hose coming from my blow off valve going to the throttle body has a leak. i replaced it and bam! check engine light gone! im so happy... :rocks:

okay so i put the reading on my car ...and bam fuel trim malfunction bank1...he turns the light off and then i run the car fine for another few days and its back on...actually its been about everyday. the car idles high frequenlty when the light is on...so i dunno....runs fine after u get it turned off....let me know ### if u have any input.

Have you checked the front O2 sensor. A dead front sensor is the most common cause of the P0170 CEL. Unless you drive my wife's Celica, which threw the code yesterday and my logger shows the O2 cycling properly. :(

Anyway, if you don't have a logger, you can probe the O2 sensor wire with a volt meter. It should be cycling between 0.2v and 0.8v.

okay so this is what i found from a buddy of mine on kcsr.org

Straight outta the Service Manual...

Potential causes for the P0170 code are:

Volume air flow sensor output frequency
Injector
Fuel pressure
Intake air leaks
Engine coolant temperature sensor
Intake air temperature sensor
Barometric pressure sensor
o2 sensor
Exhaust manifold cracks

I had this same code pop up on me around Monday night. I just took it to the local parts place and had them clear it. It has yet to come on again *knock on wood*. I had my upstream O2 sensor replaced about a year ago. The downstream has never been changed so I'm guessing that might be my reason why it tripped. But other than that my car runs fine....nothing out of the normal, so I'm just leaving it alone.

And wow I haven't posted on here in forever.
