ok i posted before about my car overheating not too long ago.i changed everything and it still over heats.so i got a compression test done and cylinder1 & 4 has 110 compression.i think thats very low.the head was rebuilt about 1000 miles ago.we poured oil on each cylinder and the compression rose by up to 140-150 on each cylinder.so i know my rings are worn but my car doest not smoke at all.the car still is overheating.so i dont know really know whats going on.my friend said the head is probably warped since it overheated real bad when my brother drove it.i have no coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant but it will overheat after 20 mins.can a warped head or a fuked up head gasket cause the compression to go this low???i spoke to my old mechanic he said 110 on each cylinder is good but i know its not good he doesnt know whats hes talking about.so any info will help me out thanks

110 is not bad. It's not the best, like 150, but at least it's nothing to be worried about. Your head is probably not warped if the car loses no water. If you are losing water, then it can be many things. You could have a ruptured hose, and water is leaking from that. Your water pump could be bad, and the water is not rotating fast enough to cool off, your radiator could be cracked. Sometimes water can get hot enough to boil right out of the overflow because water expands when it gets hot, and so it gets so hot, that it exits the car. Your thermostat could even be sticking shut. Also test your fill cap. Make sure the rubber is still in good shape. You have so many things to check. I would recommend doing a pressure test in your coolant system. I would also recommend checking the valve in the water pump while the car is running, and see if water is leaking from the valve indicating that the pump is no longer doing it's job. Please advise what happens. Good luck.

If 110psi in each cylinder isn't anything to be worried about, then why does the factory manual say 126psi is the service limit? You are only losing 25% of your hp thru blowby. I would recommend a rebuild before any serious modding on that engine.

i took out the thermostat, still overheated.bought a new radiator, replaced some hoses .changed the fan switch, radiator cap and its still over heating.my water pump has about 1200 miles on it.its basically new.im not mixing coolant with oil or vise versa.i have no white smoke coming out or anything.it started to happen after my brother ran the car with a busted hose till it got so hot it shut off.he let it cool down and it started back up.the car runs fine and strong even with 110 compression but it will still overheat.

i think the head is warped and the head gasket blew somewhere where only air is leaking into the coolant causing it to go to the overflow.theres no smoke coming out the tail pipe what so ever.so i dont think coolant is leaking in the chamber

i thought the service limit was 145, with 110 psi your definitely in need for new rings.

Yea you need new rings. The service limit on a 1G turbo motor is 121PSi. I know you are only 10 PSI away from that, but remember, the service limit is pretty much the absolute lowest that the engine will still function, when you reach the service limit its a good idea to rebuild anyway. BTW stock is 164Psi.

Stock is 164?? My compression test showed roughly 173 psi on all 4, i have a 2g awd...is it a problem if compression shows above stock readings?
