I am having a problem. when i am going straight, my car makes this deafening metal on metal type noise that is coming from the passengers front area. I at first thought it was a CV joint, but after replacing my inner boot(was shot neway) and checked the bearings, I still have the noise, and it isnt any better. could my t-case be bad, or maybe my front diff is bad? I need to figure this out quick, my prom is this sat and i NEED my car for prom. PLEASE help!

thanks in advance
Dylan

O by the way, the noise goes away completely when i am in a turn. when the wheel is turned the noise dissapears along with any vibration.

Id say front wheel bearing too. but its weird that the noise goes away on a turn. it should get louder when you turn left, as it puts wieght on the passanger side.

That's actually quite normal w/bad Wheel Bearing as turns effect Inner - Outer W/ Bearing loads - I've had it be the bearing on the OPPOSITE side of which way you turn to quiet the noise several times - weird.

So how hard is it to change the wheel bearings? is it a press in or something? i ask cause if its not too much work i will just get both for the front so i know im good

well the driveshaft spline is easy for me, i can do that in like 5 min. but do i have to remove the hub or brake rotor or any of that stuff? is it a press in bearing or what? i looked on vfaq but there isnt anything on it there. i would just like to get an idea of the intensity of the project b4 i get into it

WOW....i just started and you're right, it is a PITA!!! i cant get the fu9king rotor off or the hub off the lower bushing, is there a trick to getting the lower bushing bolt out of the hub assembly? i cannot get it off. also, how do you actually get the bearing out? I looked in my haynes manual but i cant find it in there. any help please i need the car asap!

Remove the big Nut from the Outside of the Hub - I removed the Brakes & hung the Brake Caliper from the Spring - I never took my Hub loose from the Ball Joints - I did take it loose from the Strut - Turned the Steering wheel all the way exposing the Rear of the Hub forward - Then knocked the outer CV Shaft outward from the Carrier Bearing - Then laid it over the Carrier Bearing & knocked the Spline from the HUB - The Inner Bearing is held in by a BIG circlip

I did my bearings myself too I will just say never again. I had to do the ball joints too so I popped those bad boys out pickle fork was god that night. Then I just dropped the hub on to a press studs down and put the socket I used from taking the bolt off the axle (22mm?) on the top side and pressed it out.

The bearings have been running good for me. The only thing I was unclear on was how hard to press them back in with out being able to measure the pressure? Anyone got a good way to tell when you pushed them in enough to were your not crushing the bearings?

I have clicking time to time. Haven't had any today. Mechanics at MIDAS said nothing wrong with cv joints or the wheel bearing. WTF can it be?

clicking usually means bad cv joint (9 times out of 10)......i don't know what the midas mechanics are like in your area but in mine they SUCK :thumbdown

most mechanics look at the cv joint and if the boot is not busted then they consider it to be okay, this is not always the case....the joint can wear and start clicking with the boot intact
