Ok, Heres what happened...

I havent noticed ANY problems with my turbo, any bad gas mileage, or any lame or timid pulling...

I was driving home from work 2 nights ago, and i slowed down to go through a 30mph zone, got through it and went back up to 60 and as i accelerated i noticed like, a wierd whining noise... it only happened for a few seconds and when my boost got up over half way the noise stopped.

I got home and parked the car and went to bed because it was already 11pm and i was tired as hell from work...

I got out the car the next day and now the boost almost doesnt spool at all. Its been really shitty rainy out for the last 3 days and i havent had a chance to look over the car. Im not a turbo wiseman so i have no idea whats going on....

Do you think the turbo is KIA or its just a horrid Leak???
 
well, im not a turbo guy, gonna look up how to do the leak test really quick on DSM.org and if i have the stuff to do it ill do it before work I hope to god its just a leak :/
 
Ok, i drove to my moms house cuz she has a nice garage to work on the car right

Anyhow, on the drive over, it was making the loud shrieking noises again and i got so pissed i reved WOT in 3rd gear to about 60mph @ 4-5k RPM and the sound stopped but my boost is not back.

Im dont have the stuff to do the Boost Test i dont think, i only have the bike pump LOL, so i need to take a trip to Home Depot tomorrow i think.

I think i can hear the car TRYING to spool when im driving, but im not positive. I havent noticed any color difference in exhaust yet, but my oil pressure is at about 1/4 of gauge now. This problem has me tweaking, the talon is about to get a For Sale sign tagged on it....
 
Ok i need a couple quick questions answered...


First off, its blowing a blue smoke now.

It read on the dipstick that i had no oil at all, so i put about 3 qts. into the car and let it sit, and then i started the engine up again and it was reading almost empty, left it for a while longer, still empty, then i checked the oil again and it was just under full....


Where does the Turbo get oil from? Im correct to ASSume the turbo uses oil since in-order to do a 14b swap from a 2g you have to get a different oil line right???....

So does the Turbo borrow from the same oil supply?

Because at this point im scared its either the Rings/Gaskets in the engine

But if the Turbo shares oil with the engine in anyway or anything like that, then im wondering if its really just my turbo that is all kinds of fooked up then maybe it would be drawing oil or something, i dunnoo.....

im no mechanic...


Anyone have any ideas....

Blue smoke now, just started doing it

Turbo was making noises long before any smoke or anything

Noises all stopped now and the turbo isnt making any kind of noise and it FEELS like the turbo is trying to spool but just isnt

The car feels powerless, when i give it gas it starts to pull and then feels like theres nothing else there..
 
The turbo does get oil from the engine, specifically the head. if your engine was completely empty that is a good...no great way to really fu(k your turbo up, not to mention countless other things in there.

like someone else said, check for shaft play, if you have a lot of it, that is a good indicator that you have a bad turbo.

also, if you just started blowin blue smoke that is a sign of bad turbo, what are you using to read boost, stock gauge or aftermarket? cause for some reason my stock gauge reads 0 even when my aftermarket says im boostin 10 psi.

also, the shrieking noise could have been your belt, mine does that sometimes and its freakin annoying...and you just gun the motor and it goes away. or is it like a metal on metal kind of shriek?
 
Try taking off your intake pipe and see if you can spin the compressor wheel with your finger. Kinda sounds like you may have sucked something into the turbo.

I have been swamped with work and other crap, im not gonna be able to take the turbo out till tomorrow to know for sure but im praying to god that its just the turbo that went bad, hopefully the engine isnt dead yet.

Any other info or such forth would also be awesome ^_^

btw whats a fair price for a used 14b? I cant afford a 16g again :/
 
Hey, Anyone know if you can take out hte turbo and drive without it somehow??? is there a link to the steps to do this if oyu can???

Cuz im having problems finding a 14b around here so im thinkin to just take it out and somehow like cap it off or osmething? anyone know?
